A determined police officer chased a teen, who tried to hide a knife under a car, along roads, an alleyway then over a high wall and into a field - before breathlessly telling him: 'You're under arrest.'

Officers from the Community Policing Team and Special Constabulary of Essex Police were on patrol in Greenstead, Colchester, when they saw Jordan Silifatu, 18, acting suspiciously as he pretended to trip by a parked car.

The police team conducted a stop-and-search following reports of weapons being used in the area - and when they found a knife under the vehicle, the teenager fled as they approached him.

Bodycam footage, from May 22 at 4.14pm, then shows the incredible chase, which lasted around 1 minute 15 seconds as one officer set off in pursuit.

First, Silifatu runs across a road on a quiet residential street and races towards the back of a row of houses.

He then ducks into an alleyway to his left and keeps on running. Meanwhile, the bodycam shows the officer hot on his heels while clutching a pair of handcuffs.

The chase continues among parked cars, which sees them both hurdle a low barrier and head down another suburban road.

Eventually, Silifatu approaches a high brick wall which backs onto a field and uses a conveniently positioned slab of concrete to give him a leg up and over it.

Once the teen realises the game is up, he stands waiting in the field as the breathless officer walks over to him and says, 'You're under arrest, all right?' Silifatu was charged with being in possession of a knife in a public place, and was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months

The police officer does likewise - only to find Silifatu waiting for him a few metres further away, after realising there's no escape.

The officer walks over to him, slaps on the handcuffs and declares: 'You're under arrest, all right?', at which point the footage ends.

Silifatu was charged with being in possession of a knife in a public place.

He was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months, at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 10 after pleading guilty to the offence.
