How could she get it so wrong? Woman ploughs Toyota 4x4 into subway entrance during botched parking manoeuvre

  • Driver in Fuzhou, south-east China, appeared to mistake throttle for brakes
  • Out-of-control car destroyed railings and ended up in subway entrance
  • Witness photos on Weibo show damage to other vehicles after incident

Every driver who struggles with manoeuvres like parallel parking has a fair few memorable nightmares they can recall, but hopefully nothing close to what one Chinese woman ended up doing.

The woman in question was in the process of reversing her Toyota 4x4 when she lost control of the car's brakes, jamming the throttle by accident, according to a report by People's Daily Online

The wayward vehicle hurtled backwards through the street railings and ploughed down into the entrance of subway station in Fuzhou, south-east China, coming to rest almost vertical.

Damage to other vehicles including a baby pink moped is clearly visible in witness photos posted on the social media network Weibo, as well as the extent of the damage to the railings.

The incident is reported to have occurred on the morning of December 9 and surely shocked local commuters hoping to catch their morning subway train to work, who found a car blocking their way.

The identity of the woman has not yet been confirmed, nor whether she or any bystanders suffered injuries during the accident.

With a hike in well-publicised incidents similar to this in China, the phrase 'female drivers' has regrettably become something of a buzzword for bad driving and particularly bad parking in the country over the past year

A shopping centre in Shanghai hit the headlines earlier this year for building a car park with specially allocated 'women's parking spaces' for female drivers' 'special needs'.

The facility features bigger-than-normal parking spaces - apparently for all those ladies who struggle with effective parking in a multi-storey.

Last week China celebrated its third annual national day for road safety with exhibitions, lectures and online discussions.
