The race for the Democratic and Republican party nominations eclipsed an outpouring of emotions over deadly attacks, strife, social issues and natural disasters.
Anticipation for the upcoming Star Wars film made The Force Awakens the most talked-about movie of the year, while Game of Thrones topped the TV chart and Floyd Mayweather Jnr. was the most talked-about athlete.

'This year, the most talked about global topics reflected the serious challenges people are facing all over the world - and how our global community is connecting and coming together in ways we have never seen before,' said Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer.

Globally, the top place people checked into were Disney and Universal Studios them parks. New York's Times Square and the Eiffel Tower in Paris were in the third and fourth place.
