H1Z1 Battle Royale arrives on PS4
- Open beta testing for the H1Z1: Battle Royale just launched on PlayStation 4
- The game launched for PC in February 2018 with an Xbox One version planned
- Like Fortnite, the game promises intense, fast-paced battle royale gameplay
The popular battle royale genre is getting a new contender for the crown soon.
H1Z1 just launched its open beta test phase on May 22 for PlayStation 4. Much like the phenomenally popular action-shooter Fortnite, H1Z1 promises bare-knuckle battle royale action in which players duke it out against each other in a desperate fight for survival.
The game’s development has been fraught with delays and complications, being in early access for the past three years. However, the recent open beta launch, which is free-to-play, means that the game finally appears to be on track for a full release later on in 2018.
H1Z1 on PlayStation 4 will offer plenty of fast-paced, intense battle royale action for gamers
The open beta for PlayStation 4 offers a similar style as gameplay as the PC version of the action game, though with some notable adjustments. The new PlayStation 4 version will enhance the game’s controls and promise a faster, smoother and more streamlined gameplay style. In addition, the PlayStation 4 version for 15-minute matches will also offer an improved user interface and revamped weaponry.
Terrence Yee, the producer behind H1Z1, states: ‘We redesigned H1Z1 on the PlayStation 4 to cater to the action shooter fan. We received fantastic feedback during Closed Beta and we are excited for all PlayStation 4 players to finally be able to experience the intense action of H1Z1: Battle Royale.’
For its upcoming launch, the video game will be releasing three tiers at varying price points.
The Starter Bundle’s price will be $4.99 (£3.75) while the Standard Bundle will be priced at $19.99 (£15.01) and the Deluxe Bundle at $49.99 (£37.53). Additionally, PlayStation Plus members will also receive two exclusive nemesis crate items, a backpack and body armor.
What is H1Z1?
H1Z1 is a free-to-play battle royale video game both published and developed by the California-based Daybreak Game Company.
The game entered early access testing on Steam in January 2015 and was officially released for Microsoft Windows on February 28, 2018. In addition to its PC version and PlayStation 4 version currently in open beta testing, an Xbox One version is also planned at a later date.
The game features 150 players battling it out in battle royal matches, with the last player standing declared the winner. Players can choose to play solo or also in teams of two or five in the game’s matches.
Much like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the game sees dozens of players parachute onto a map at random locations and battle it out to the death. Players can scavenge for weaponry and supplies and also craft their own items.
As matches progress, highly-toxic gas clouds spread throughout the map, dealing damage to players and forcing them to confront each other as they inevitably grow in size.
