Swansea 0-1 Liverpool
It has been in the absence of Steven Gerrard that this Liverpool side have really come of age this past month or so. They have stepped out of their captain’s shadow, proving themselves worthy successors as well as serious contenders in the process.
They owe much of their recent success to their manager, of course. Unlike some of his nearest counterparts, Brendan Rodgers has worked through the problem of a misfiring team and come up with a most effective solution. It has amounted to tactically astute, impressive leadership.

Reading 3-0 Bradford City
Steve Clarke claimed Reading had reached the FA Cup quarter-final under the radar. Here at the Madejski Stadium he has put them firmly back on the map.
This was some night for Reading’s supporters and they will head for Wembley next month to play an FA Cup semi-final against the mighty Arsenal.

Four into three doesn't go and with Manchester City slipping and Liverpool winning, there are now just four points separating the Premier League champions from the Reds in fifth.
One of the duo or Arsenal and Manchester United look likely to miss out on Champions League football but it really is too close to call at this stage.
Thanks for following folks. All the post-match fall-out will be on the homepage but make sure you check back for more live coverage tomorrow as Arsenal travel to Monaco in the Champions League trying to overturn a 3-1 deficit. Cheerio.
Liverppol are just shy of a second goal! The Reds counter but after cutting on to his right foot inside the box, Sturridge's placed side-foot shot across goal bounces low off the post.
We are inside four additional minutes at the Liberty Stadium. Liverpool fans are in full voice singing 'you'll never walk alone.'
The atmosphere is rather damp at the Liberty Stadium, even if Garry Monk is going gung ho for an equaliser as Marvin Emnes replaces Sigurdsson.
Time is ticking away for Swansea and despite looking comfortable, Liverpool opt to shore up their defence as Glen Johnson comes on to replace Lallana with three minutes to play.
While Reading fans stage a mini-pitch invasion to celebrate their semi-final progress, Swansea look no closer to an equaliser with just six minutes to play at the Liberty Stadium. Liverpool have been far from their best but they are heading for a big three points.
Reading are through to the FA Cup semi-finals to face Arsenal.
Another change for Swansea as Ki Sung-yueng is replaced by Nathan Dyer.
No response from Swansea as Liverpool look even more likely to strike after opening the scoring. Sturridge lifts a high pass into the box, but Sterling just can't lift his shot over Fabianksi and under the crossbar.
First change for Swansea with just over 17 minutes to play as Jefferson Montero replaces Routledge.
Opportunism or a giant slice of luck? I'm going with the latter but it's given Liverpool the lead whatever way you look at it.
A Swansea defender goes to clear a through ball only to kick the ball against a charging Jordan Henderson which then ricochets over Fabianski and into the back of the net from 20 yards.
On comes Steven Gerrard for Liverpool as he replaces Moreno. The Reds are just starting to get on top again following a spell of Swansea pressure.
Meanwhile at Swansea, Liverpool's Alberto Moreno joins the list of bookings for a poor tackle on Kyle Naughton, as the Swans press for an opening goal on the hour mark.
If it wasn't game over, it certainly is now. Chalobah's through ball for Jamie Mackie is sublime and the striker does it justice by rifling home a low drive at the near post past Ben Williams. Reading are heading to Wembley!
It's not quite below the belt, and that's part of the problem for Filipe Morais. His studs up challenge on Nathaniel Chalobah catches the midfielder in the stomach, giving the referee no choice but to send him off for dangerous play. Is that game over for Bradford now?
Rain is falling in Wales (there's a surprise) so Lallana is going to get a bit soaked as he lies down in pain on the turf following a clash of knees with a Swansea defender.
He looks in some pain, but it looks like he will be able to continue.
Jon Stead is replaced by Billy Clarke for Bradford while Andy Halliday makes way for Mark Yeates.
Gomis is now back on for Swansea too.
...and Swansea have 10 men. Gomis has missed the start of the second half due to having to change his boots. Come on, chaps. This is the pinnacle of football, not Hackney Marshes!
I have to say, Reading's lead is looking a healthy one as they continue to attack, with Bradford's James Meredith booked for a clumsy tackle on McCleary.
Striker Mark Yeates looks like he is warming up for Bradford.
There have been no changes from either side in the FA Cup quarter-final replay.
I won't criticise his spelling mistake on Gerrard, as that will just leave me open to be shot down from all angles.
But you can't help but raise a smile to this - I know I did. Certainly beats the 'slip songs' sung by opposition fans, surely?
Meanwhile, Liverpool are fading at the other end. In front of a wall of Swansea defenders, Sturridge adjusts to try and bend a left-footed strike in the top corner from 25 yards only to lift his effort way over the crossbar. Cue the ironic cheers from the home fans.
Wilfried who? Swansea are not looking like a side who sold their best striker to Manchester City last month.
The hosts continue to create good chances as Routledge's cross falls for Gylfi Sigurdsson on the edge of the box, whose strike across goal is superbly pushed behind for a corner by Mignolet.
From the set-piece the ball finds Jonjo Shelvey who whistles a shot just wide.
On the cusp of half-time, Bradford carve out a rare chance as Billy Knott darts to collect a pass inside the box, only for his near post cross to be gobbled up by Federici.
Gomis has put in a good shift for Swansea in this first half as he goes close to opening the scoring.
The Swansea striker plays a clever one-two with Routledge before racing in on goal, but his near post shot is well pushed away by Mignolet.
Given Philippe Coutinho's recent track record when it comes to shooting from distance, you can't blame him for having an eye for goal within a 35-yard range.
The Liverpool forward cuts inside from the left but his 25-yard strike is well taken by Fabianski who positioned himself well to make a comfortable stop.
Well we are certainly not lacking yellow cards. Raheem Sterling joins our booking hall of fame shame as he sees yellow for chopping down Routledge.
Still the chances come, with Liverpool curiously a little wasteful in possession this evening.
Wayne Routledge crosses deep to the back post for Gomis, whose header back across the target is headed clear in front of the line by Skrtel.
We have seen Adam Lallana crash in a few from there, but not on this occasion as the midfielder runs on to a Sturridge knock-down 25 yards out before blasting a shot straight at Lukasz Fabianski. Either side of the Swansea keeper and the Pole would have been struggling to stop that.
After a couple of quick goals, we now have a flurry of yellow cards at Reading.
Bradford's Billy Knott and Reading's Daniel Williams both collect bookings, and moments later the Bantams' Alan Sheehan also finds his way into the ref's notebook for an over zealous challenge battling in the air for the ball.
Swansea's good start continues as Jack Cork's long pass brilliantly picks out Bafetimbi Gomis.
The striker brings the ball under control well as he runs forward, but Martin Skrtel cuts across to put the ball behind for a corner. Good stuff from both sides there.
Swansea are causing Liverpool problems early on, but it's the Reds who go close to opening the scoring with Daniel Sturridge dragging an effort low of the post from 20 yards.
Jordan Henderson will be lucky to see half-time the way he is going. The Liverpool captain could have been booked after five seconds, now he sees yellow after five minutes with a very late sliding challenge on Neil Taylor near the Reds byline. Swansea fail to make the most of the resulting free-kick however as Simon Mignolet punches away.
Where the drama has started inside the first minute, with Jordan Henderson already raising a high boot to kick Jonjo Shelvey in the mouth. There appears to be no malice though which perhaps prevents the Liverpool midfielder from picking up a very early booking.
Bradford are in huge trouble now! They are unfortunate here though as Garath McCleary cuts inside from the left with some nifty footwork before his shot takes a huge deflection off Andy Halliday, looping over a helpless Ben Williams and into the back of the net.
Bradford attempt to pull a goal back straight away but James Hanson's header from a Jon Stead cross is well saved by Adam Federici.
Already we have more action in this game than we had at Bradford!
And there goes the goalless draw! Reading started brightly and have the lead after Hal Robson-Kanu loses Stephen Darby before glancing a header across goal into the bottom corner.
There are a still a few empty seats inside the ground, but it's not due to lack of interest. There is terrible traffic congestion outside the Madejski Stadium so expect those seats to fill up as the night goes on... unless this game follows the same pattern as the 0-0 draw from Valley Parade. In which case I wouldn't be surprised to see everyone running for the exits.

Steven Gerrard and his Liverpool side are warming up at the Liberty Stadium, as are the hosts, Swansea.
Pressure is on Liverpool then, as they aim for a win which would see them remain fifth but narrow the gap to fourth placed Manchester United to just two points.
Swansea will chase three points which would lift them above Stoke into eighth.

Steven Gerrard is among the Liverpool substitutes for their Barclays Premier League trip to Swansea after missing the last seven games with hamstring trouble.
Brendan Rodgers makes three changes from the side held to a goalless draw by Blackburn in the FA Cup eight days ago, with Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno and Joe Allen replacing Glen Johnson, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren.
Bafetimbi Gomis starts after fainting on the field in Swansea's last game at Tottenham on March 4 as manager Garry Monk makes one change from that 3-2 defeat, with central defender Federico Fernandez having returned home to Argentina for personal reasons and Jordi Amat coming in for his first league start since September.
Jonjo Shelvey is on the cover, which is understandable given that this is after all the 'Jonjo Shelvey derby' following the Swansea midfielder's previous spell at Liverpool.
Reading boss Steve Clarke changes his entire starting line-up for his side's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Bradford.
Having made nine alterations in Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Watford, the Royals' manager introduces a new-look starting XI for the replay at the Madejski just over 48 hours later.

As Liverpool players prepare at the Liberty Stadium for their 8pm kick-off, team news from the FA Cup quarter-final should be in any moment now.
Liverpool fans travelling to Swansea should be concerned about an accident on junction 30-33 of the M4, but there are no traffic concerns for the Reds who have arrived at Swansea for their Premier League clash.
It's an overcast evening at Reading where the Royals will host Bradford City in their FA Cup quarter-final replay.
The original tie finished 0-0 at the Coral Windows Stadium, which means even if we get another goalless stalemate tonight, we have to have a winner.
It could go to the wire so stick around if this goes to extra-time or penalties. The winner faces Arsenal at Wembley in the semi-finals so there is plenty on the line.
Two huge games - both worthy of anyone's time - but for some reason they are being played at the same time. So where's your focus this evening?
Are your eyes on Liverpool's push to reach the top four and next season's Champions League when they travel to Swansea?
Or is the romance of the FA Cup and a dream semi-final for Reading or Bradford City working for you?
