Chelsea 'devastated' by West Ham defeat, admits Gary Cahill as Jose Mourinho's side slump to fifth Premier League loss

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has revealed that the dressing room spirit is 'not great' following Saturday's 2-1 defeat by bitter rivals West Ham.

Goals from Mauro Zarate and Andy Carroll condemned the 10-man Blues to their fifth Premier League loss of the season - with the latter's strike coming after Nemanja Matic was sent off and Cahill had equalised for the visitors.

Chelsea trail league leaders Arsenal by 11 points after 10 games this campaign - with Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Southampton and now West Ham all taking maximum points off the defending champions.

Stamford Bridge boss Jose Mourinho, who was sent to the stands during Saturday's defeat, refused to speak the media after their latest setback with Cahill the only Chelsea player to speak after the match.

And the 29-year-old admitted post-match that he and his team-mates are currently downbeat with Saturday's outcome summing up their season so far.

'(The mood in the dressing room) is not great - like you'd imagine when you lose games,' he told BBC Sport. 'Last season we weren't used to it. The lads are devastated.

'You're left scratching your head sometimes. In the first half a Cesc Fabregas goal could have been given and we had a goal that was nearly over the line. That sums up the way we're going.

'And then we've got the sending-off. Originally we played on - we thought the referee had played on. Maybe the assistant called it back, I'm not sure sure what's happened there. 

'We've not had the rub of the green, but we're not feeling sorry for ourselves. We have to work hard to turn this round.

'Not many words are being said at the moment. I'm sure we'll reflect in next day or so. We worked really hard with 10 men and had the majority of the play in the second half. It's a summary of our season at the minute.'
