- Real Madrid knocked Manchester City out of Champions League semi-final
- Fernando's own goal was enough to secure a 1-0 aggregate win for Real
- Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric all impressed Martin Keown
- Yaya Toure and Eliaquim Mangala struggled for Manchester City
Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League as they were beaten by Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final.
Fernando's own goal in the first half was enough to split the sides and hand Real a 1-0 aggregate victory after a goalless draw in the first leg at the Etihad last week.
Here, Sportsmail's Martin Keown gives us his verdict on the players' performances on Wednesday night...

Real Madrid (4-3-3)
Keylor Navas - Looked good under the high ball and looked the part. Nearly beaten by Fernandinho in the first half but was always alert and read the game well to snuff out a potential Aguero chance. 7.5
Dani Carvajal - Does his job very well at right back without getting much credit. Got forward well and played in a lovely weighted pass for Bale to open the scoring. Adds good discipline to their team. 7
Pepe - Gave Aguero no change at all. With his partner Ramos they looked determined not to give him any time to settle or grow into the game. A good performance. 7.5

Sergio Ramos - As good as I’ve seen him play. Was calm in possession and his distribution was excellent. He gambled by constantly going in after Aguero but it paid off — it killed the striker’s confidence. 8
Marcelo - Flew up and down the left for fun, as he usually does. Provided a real threat in attack and was full of imagination but his antics with De Bruyne demonstrated the uglier side of his game. 7
Luka Modric - Whenever Real were in possession he sat deep but he loves to pick up the ball from his defenders and thread short passes. He keeps that midfield ticking over nicely. 8

Toni Kroos - If Modric likes to keep things short, then Kroos is always looking to pick a pass. Played some good diagonals and handled the ball much better than the first leg. The pair played well. 7
Isco - Was busy and always looked to be involved. Offered more than Casemiro in the first leg. While his midfield partners sat deep, he acted as the glue that linked them with the attack. 7.5
Gareth Bale - Looked like he was enjoying himself out there. Almost scored with a magnificent header and it was harsh for his goal to be taken away from him. They wouldn’t do that to Ronaldo. 8
Cristiano Ronaldo - Has been out injured but you wouldn’t know it. He proved his athleticism and looked very sharp. Clearly not ready to surrender his mantle as the club’s No 1. 7.5
Jese Rodriguez - An all-action display and showed excellent ability when running with the ball. Was versatile and fluid with Bale and Ronaldo, though sometimes his delivery let him down. 7.5

Manchester City (4-2-3-1)
Joe Hart - Nothing he could do about the opener and made a good save from Modric in the second half. He came out and stood tall, an area where he has really improved. 7
Bacary Sagna - Was strangely muted and battled away but didn’t want to venture as far forward as he usually does. Pinned back by Bale and Ronaldo and looked like he didn't want to take any risks. 6
Manchester City right back Bacary Sagna looks dejected during his side's defeat
Eliaquim Mangala - Forwards can run off his shoulder without him realising far too easily. Needs to read the game quicker. As for Vincent Kompany, it’s more misery. He has to go back to the medical drawing board. 5.5
Nicolas Otamendi - Did well in the first leg but once Kompany went off, City did not play as a unit. He and Mangala found themselves in poor positions and he was guilty of diving in. 6.5
Gael Clichy - Was tidy but, like Sagna, looked far less willing to get forward. The added threat of Ronaldo clearly worried City’s full backs and they were both very quiet in attack. 6.5
Fernando - Sat the deepest of City’s midfielders but Ronaldo and Bale were able to find pockets of space either side of him. No shortage of effort but he was outplayed. 6.5
Fernandinho - Had City’s only real effort of note in the first half and could so easily have been the hero had it not gone the wrong side of the post. He competed manfully but not helped by Toure. 6.5

Jesus Navas - Found some space down the right early on but there weren’t enough bodies in the box for his crosses. Offers City a good shape but saw far too little of the ball. 6
Yaya Toure - At times it looked like Yaya was playing on one leg. It was a shame to see such a formidable player limping through a match. Should have been subbed off far earlier. 5.5

Kevin De Bruyne - Disappointing and I expected more. City spent big on him for occasions just like this. Seemed to have lost his rhythm and the rest at the weekend game certainly didn’t improve him. 6
Sergio Aguero - Was suffocated by the Real defence. They were all over him like a rash, which forced him to come deep and look for the ball. Was almost forgotten until a superb late shot. 6
