Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw has offered to grant an elderly supporter his dying wish, by getting him a ticket to the FA Cup final.

William Moore, who was a friend of United legend Duncan Edwards, was diagnosed with a brain tumour three weeks ago.

And after the 80-year-old's family appealed to the public for a ticket, England international Shaw has stepped up to help out.

Shaw, who has not played since September because of injury, said it was his pleasure to help out

Shaw told the Manchester Evening News, who publicised Moore's story, that it would be 'my pleasure to get him to watch the game'.

The United star was joined by dozens of other fans, some of whom offered to give up their tickets and even drive the elderly Moore to Wembley - where he hasn't watched a game of football since seeing his team lift the European Cup in 1968.

United take on Crystal Palace on May 21, in their first FA Cup final since 2007, when they were beaten by Chelsea.

William's daughter Lorraine Phillips said: 'I'm completely overwhelmed and a little bit star-struck that someone from the team has come along to help.'

'I can't believe the amount of people coming forward. It's just remarkable when there is an allocation of just 28,000 tickets that people are willing to give up their seats for us. It's wonderful. Their generosity astounds me.
