Rangers legend Nacho Novo in stable condition in hospital after suffering heart attack following Masters tournament in Berlin

Rangers icon Nacho Novo is in hospital in Berlin after suffering a suspected heart attack following a legends football tournament.

The 38-year-old Spaniard was part of a team of former Ibrox players at the AOK Traditionmasters Tournament in the German capital on Saturday.

After playing in two matches, Novo felt unwell and was rushed for medical treatment.

Nacho Novo underwent a successful operation after suffering a heart attack in Berlin 

He is understood to be in a stable condition and likely to spend around a week in hospital before returning home.

Novo's girlfriend, Stephanie Heaney, flew to Berlin to be with him on Sunday and posted a Facebook update on his condition.

She wrote: 'Nacho is stable and speaking to me and hopefully will be home soon. And thank you.'

Rangers confirmed on Sunday night that their former striker was in a stable condition in Berlin, adding: 'Everyone at the club wishes Nacho a speedy recovery.'

Novo joined Rangers from Dundee in 2004 and went on to spend six years at Ibrox, scoring 47 goals.

He was part of a John Brown-managed Rangers legends side in Germany that also included Andy Goram, Derek Ferguson, Michael Mols, Marvin Andrews and Alex Rae.

Novo last played senior football for Northern Irish side Glentoran, leaving them in May.
