Arsenal could let out-of-favour midfielder Lucas Torreira join Roma in a swap deal involving Guinea international Amadou Diawara, according to reports.
Torreira has admitted he faces leaving the Gunners after making just 17 appearances in the Premier League this season and could make the same move as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who has been on loan at Roma.
Roma have confirmed they are being taken over by US billionaire Dan Friedkin and want to build on their 'excellent relations' with Arsenal to agree the switch, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.
Arsenal are reportedly ready to sign Guinea defensive midfielder Amadou Diawara from Roma
Torreira moved to the Premier League from Sampdoria for £25m in 2018 but has not started a match since January and was an unused substitute in the FA Cup final against Chelsea, playing just 18 minutes in Arsenal's triumphant cup campaign.
The 24-year-old said it would 'be for the best' if he had to leave earlier this month, and the Italian outlet reports that he is motivated by becoming a pivotal part of a team.
Diawara joined Roma from Napoli last summer and became a regular starter from November, although he missed 13 matches through injuries.
Rarely-used midfielder Lucas Torreira could head back to Serie A as part of the potential swap
The 22-year-old scored his only goal of the season from the penalty spot as Roma beat Torino 3-2 in their penultimate Serie A fixture to secure fifth place and Europa League football next season.
Roma have already agreed a deal to sign former Chelsea winger Pedro and Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is looking to move players on as he overhauls his squad within a tight budget.
Torreira began his senior career in Italy with Pescara in 2014, rejoining the Serie B side for a season on loan after joining Sampdoria in 2015.
