Premier League players have been warned to dodge social media while holidaying abroad to avoid quarantine questions on their return.

Some top-flight clubs are due to begin training for the new campaign next week, with a collection of stars still away during their downtime between seasons.

Sportsmail understands players have been told by representatives not to post on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat while out of the country.

That move is thought to have been driven by a desire to not alert the general public of their whereabouts and subsequent questions surrounding quarantine rules.

Ibiza and Marbella are regular haunts for players. Tourists are instructed to isolate for 14 days on their return, with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office advising against non-essential trips.

Exemptions for elite sport do not apply to players not involved in European competition ahead of the Premier League’s resumption on September 12.

League chiefs have alerted clubs to Government guidance and expect players to be in acceptable shape to kick-off the 2020-21 season.
