Allen Hurns: Summer camp is paying off for Allen Robinson, Blake Bortles and I... and we're ready to give the Bills a hard time

  • Hurns talks about his developing partnership with Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson
  • Robinson has caught 28 passes for 488 yards and five touchdowns, with Hurns hauling in 29 balls for 460 yards and four touchdowns
  • The duo are attracting headlines, but are yet to come up with a nickname The Jaguars play the Bills at Wembley in their third International Series game
  • Hurns could be in for another big day against one of the NFL's most targeted cornerback duos

In his second column for Sportsmail, second year wide receiver Allen Hurns speaks about the atmosphere at Wembley, the UK's NFL fanbase and about his developing partnership with Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson.

Wembley Stadium has a real special atmosphere – I loved playing there last year. The fans just cheer all day long no matter what is happening!

It was a fantastic experience for me to come straight out of college and then the next year play at a historic stadium like Wembley with all the fans – I was pretty taken aback.

It really means a lot to me when we come over here that we see the fans in the stadium who are sticking with us until the end because you don’t see that every day.

This is my second year coming to London and it has been really good. With it being my second year here and the team’s third we know the drill of getting here, having meetings, going out to practice but to see the fans come out is always great.

Just meeting people from across the UK who take time to come out and support us even when it isn’t game day - well that really does mean a lot to us. It has been great to see people sticking with us through thick and thin, the UK fan base is amazing and they put a smile on my face every time I’m here.

The Bills have a really great defense and they’re going to be a tough match-up, that’s no doubt. Their coach Rex Ryan is well known for putting out really good defensive teams as that is his speciality. They are certainly going to bring a lot of blitzes in the game so I’m going to be interested to see how they matchup against us at Wembley and how our offense does against them.

Personally I’m looking forward to going up against their cornerbacks who are a pretty good defensive duo, Ronald Darby and Stephon Gilmore, but I’m always confident in myself and Allen Robinson to go up against any cornerbacks and give them a hard time.

Probably the best I have faced is Vontae Davis at the Indianapolis Colts – then again I had one of my best days against them [116 yards and a touchdown]. I didn’t face up against him all day but when I did he was a tough guy – although you want to be challenged as an NFL player.

Going up against a player like Davon House every day really helps though. He is a really smart player and a real veteran of the league. He has seen a lot of wide receivers do a lot of things on the field so he passes on a lot of knowledge on how I can improve and I help him as well. We go at it every day on the training field but at the end of the day we’re on the same team so we’re always trying to get each other better.

It’s been going great this season growing with Allen Robinson as a wide receiving pair along with Blake Bortles and building that chemistry as we’re all second years. All three of us stayed in Jacksonville during the off-season and had private training sessions at a local school and just got to know each other better.

You can see that is paying off now with the yards and the touchdowns we are putting on the board – now we just need to stay consistent. But playing as a second year and knowing the ropes already gives you that swagger about yourself. Myself and Allen haven’t come up with a name for our partnership just yet but maybe we’ll think of something soon.

There is no doubt that Julius Thomas has helped me take my game up a peg – the teams in the league have a lot of respect for Julius because of what he is capable of and what he has done in the NFL already [24 touchdowns in two seasons].

Playing in the offense with him is a lot of fun and it opens things up for us on the passing game and the running game because every team has to be concerned with what Julius might do. He is a great playmaker.

I’ve never actually played fantasy football before but when I came into the NFL I scored two touchdowns in my first ever game. I sure found out about fantasy football after that game from all the reporters, my friends who had picked me, Twitter and all of that. I don’t check up on my fantasy points but I usually find out from tweets if I’ve won someone their match-up!
