Bacarri Rambo: I feel like I belong in the NFL now, and once the Buffalo Bills click we can make a run for the play-offs

  • Buffalo Bills face Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on Sunday
  • Bills travelled to London with a 3-3 record and hopes of making play-offs
  • Bacarri Rambo thinks the Bills can improve once the team clicks
  • He was cut by Washington in 2014 and given second chance by Buffalo

Battling adversity is something both Bacarri Rambo and his Buffalo Bills team are used to.

The free safety was cut by the Washington Redskins early in his second season in the NFL last year before he was given a second chance in Buffalo.

The Bills, meanwhile, have not reached the play-offs since 1999, the longest post-season drought in the league.

But things are starting to turn for Buffalo. They travelled to London earlier this week for Sunday's International Series clash with the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 3-3 record and genuine hopes of making the play-offs.

Reflecting on his team's season so far, Rambo said: 'There have been some ups and some downs.

'We have got to get things going. I feel like once we start to get everybody clicking together on offense, defense and special teams the record is going to be a whole lot better.

'But we have got a lot of things to improve on so we have just got to continue to work and try and get better.'

It's been a year of change in Buffalo with former New York Jets coach Rex Ryan taking over from Doug Marrone and tasked with the job of taking the Bills to the play-offs.

Buffalo will be desparate to return home from London with a winning 4-3 record, and that will represent a respectable return given their injuries.

The Bills will be without some of their leading players on Sunday, including quarterback Tyrod Taylor and wide receivers Sammy Watkins Jnr and Percy Harvin.

'We have got a lot of tools and a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, we have just got to get things clicking,' Rambo said.

'Coach Rex and his staff have been doing a great job and I feel like things will get a whole lot better for us.

'The new additions to the team bring in a lot of explosive big-play making ability to the offensive side of the ball and coach Rex and the defensive staff bring a scheme and a system that could shut down the opposition's best player.

'Rex and his staff bring a lot of energy and make the game fun. They just like to have fun and play the game and teach you new stuff every day.

'When you know somebody is going to have your back, you’re going to go out there and give your all for them.'

As well as feeling energised by the changes in Buffalo, Rambo feels a new level of confidence playing in a well-respected defense that is feared by other teams.

A lot of that confidence comes from Rambo's rare achievement late last season - intercepting Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers not once but twice.

But if there is one thing that being cut by Washington taught him, it is that 'you can’t take the game for granted'.

He added: 'You have to go out there and prepare each week, day in and day out and try and get better.

'There is always someone behind you trying to take your spot so you have got to go out there and continue to work hard and play every play as if it’s your last.

'Getting two interceptions off Aaron Rodgers was a huge highlight for myself.

'It was a good confidence builder for myself after I was released by the Redskins that I came to Buffalo and got two interceptions off Rodgers and made me feel like I belong in this league.

'There is still some lack of communication (on defense) but we continue to grow and learn the system and what the coaches want from us and everything else will take care of itself.'

Baccari Rambo, Tyrod Taylor and Reggie Yates were at NikeTown London to discuss the evolution of speed in the game ahead of the second 2015 NFL International Series game.
