Blow for Ireland as Jerry Flannery set to miss start of Six Nations

Ireland international Jerry Flannery is set to miss the start of this season's RBS 6 Nations Championship after being dealt another injury setback.

The Munster hooker could be sidelined for up to six weeks after tearing a calf muscle during last Saturday's Magners League game against Ulster.

Flannery, 32, was ruled out of the 2009 British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa because of an injury suffered during a Lions training session before the squad departed.

And he has now been laid low by a second calf injury of the current campaign, sidelining him for Munster's remaining Heineken Cup pool games against Toulon and London Irish, and probably Ireland's Six Nations appointments with Italy and France early next month.

Ireland and Leinster prop Cian Healy, meanwhile, has signed a new two-year contract with the Irish Rugby Football Union, following recent deals penned by Munster pair Ronan O'Gara and Donncha O'Callaghan.
