Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse's new trailer shows Miles Morales fighting against his fellow Spider-People... as they recreate iconic meme

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse returned with its second official trailer on Tuesday.

The new video delves into how Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) defends his status as just one of numerous alternate-universe Spider-People.

Fans of the web slinger will likely delight in seeing the assembled Spider-People recreate the famous pointing meme that originated with the Spider-Man animated series from the 1960s.

Although Miles has had some time to practice being the iconic superhero, he's seen having trouble navigating his family obligations and school life at the start of the trailer.

After introducing himself, he's seen arriving at a party with some gifts, but his parents (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez) are upset that he's late.

He disappoints his Spanish-speaking mother further when it's revealed that he only got a B in Spanish class during a parent–teacher conference.

But his attention has been diverted by a new villain, The Spot (Jason Schwartzman).

The Spot is a former scientist who emerges from an experiment gone wrong with a completely black-and-white body, and he takes to petty crime after discovering that the black spots allow him to open portals to alternate dimensions.

Miles has to cut his parent–teacher conference short after glimpsing The Spot up to no good on the top of a neighboring building, which allows his counselor (former SNL star Rachel Dratch) to tell his parents that 'he's lying' about something, though she has no idea about his true secret.

During a rare moment of downtime, he's interrupted in bed when his friend Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) appears in a portal above him.

She takes him to an alternate world to introduce him to a group of Spider-People who have joined forces, known as the Spider-Force.

'So wait a minute, there's an elite crew with all the best Spider-People in it?' he says incredulously.

As he surveys the new world, we're briefly introduced to alternate Spider-People, including Spider-Punk (voiced by Daniel Kaluuya) and the Jessica Drew version of Spider-Woman (voiced by Issa Rae).

We're then introduced to Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), from an alternate, future version of Earth.

He has a far more imposing physique that Miles, and the other Spider-People look up to him as their leader because he came up with the idea of the crew.

But he apparently doesn't want Miles to have anything to do with the Spider-Force.

''You can never be part of this,' he says, adding, 'Don't even get me started on Doctor Strange and the little nerd back on Earth 199999.'

He appears to be referring to the version of Spider-Man played by Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw the character teaming up with Doctor Strange.

But his tirade is interrupted when Peter Parker/Spider-Man Prime (Jake Johnson) shows up.

He looks as if he has been taking it easy lately, as he looks as if he is dressed in a fuzzy pink robe, and he carries his new child, who can apparently shoot webs and climb walls too.

In voiceover, Spider-Man 2099 reminds Miles that being his superhero alter-ego is a 'sacrifice.'

'You have the choice between saving one person and saving every world,' he continues, suggesting that he thinks Miles will sacrifice everyone just to save a single person.

Spider-Man 2099 then says he won't let Miles return home, even though the younger super-hero says he can 'do both.'

Miles father is seen hanging from a high ledge by just his fingers, before he falls to what would be sudden death, suggesting that he is the person Miles wants to save.

He then tries to get Peter's backup by mention his late Uncle Ben, whose death inspired him to take up the Spider-Man mantle.

But Peter doesn't approve of the tactic, and he says Ben's death was necessary motivation for him.

'If not for Uncle Ben, most of us wouldn't be here,' he says sadly.

That seems to set off a conflict with Spider-Man 2099 who will do everything in his power to stop Miles from going back home.

He's seen from behind as he pins Miles to the ground, possibly before trying to kill him.

Fighting back: 'You have no idea what you're doing!' Spider-Man 2099 screams. 'Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go. Nah, I'm gonna do my own thing,' Miles says defiantly

The trailer ends with Spider-Man 2099 calling over an intercom for all the other Spider-People to 'stop Spider-Man,' which causes them to quizzically point at each other, recreating the classic meme.
