Four people escape blaze at Chch home

Three people have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Christchurch.

Firefighters rushed to the house after reports there were four people trapped inside.

Authorities say they received multiple calls about the fire on Woodbury St in Avonhead about 7.45am on Saturday morning.

When firefighters arrived they realised everyone had made it outside of the house.

"We initially thought someone was trapped in there," a fire service spokesman told NZ Newswire.

"But no one was trapped."

Four people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and three of them were taken to hospital for further treatment.

Investigators are exploring how the fire started.
