Mates mourn NSW teen 'taken far too young'

Friends have laid flowers in a suburban street in regional NSW where a young P-plater died in a car crash.

Ryan Egan was driving a Honda CRV through Kurri Kurri, in the NSW Hunter region, in the early hours of Sunday when he crashed.

The car struck an electrical box and awning supports outside a shop on Lang St before rolling several times.

Ryan, a 17-year-old in his final year of school, died at the scene.

Friends returned to the scene on Sunday to lay flowers and grieve for the popular local teen.

Ryan's relative, Candice Egan, said her family would never be the same without him.

"I still can't wrap my head around the fact that you're gone," she wrote on Facebook.

"Growing up we were inseparable and we have some pretty great memories that I'll cherish forever".

A post on a page set up in Ryan's memory stated: "you were taken far too young and we'll miss you brother".

Friends described Ryan to Fairfax Media as a smart kid who loved every sport and "didn't have a negative thing to say about anything".
