SA to cut ties with emergency app

The South Australian government will dump a smartphone app designed to send emergency warnings to people after it crashed during catastrophic bushfire conditions.

The Alert SA app crashed on Saturday as a serious bushfire raged in the state's southeast and as other fires were also burning.

Emergency Services Minister Chris Picton says Victorian company Ripe Intelligence can't provide the necessary assurances that such a failure won't happen again and on that basis SA's emergency services will no longer support use of the app.
