Russian deputy foreign minister, top Palestinian official discuss Gaza situation, urge ceasefire

MOSCOW, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and a senior Palestinian official agreed on Thursday in a phone call on the need for a ceasefire and for the opening of human corridors to deliver food and medicine to Gaza's population.

In a statement, Russia's foreign ministry said Bogdanov and Hussein Al-Sheikh, secretary general of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), had also agreed on the need to restore water and electricity to Gaza.

They stressed the "unacceptability of indiscriminate bombardment" of the Gaza Strip that is causing numerous civilian casualties, the ministry statement added. (Reporting by Reuters Editing by Gareth Jones)
