Report: Patriots reject Texans' GM interview requests
New England reportedly rejected the Texans' request to interview two Patriots' front-office executives for the general manager job opening in Houston.
The Texans sought permission to interview Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio and director of college scouting Monti Ossenfort but were turned down, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.
In addition, Philadelphia rejected the Texans' request to interview Eagles vice president of player personnel Joe Douglas, according to ESPN.
Under the NFL's rules for hiring executives from other teams, Caserio and Ossenfort still might be able to interview for the Texans' GM job after the Patriots' season ends, according to the report. Caserio worked with Texans head coach Bill O'Brien in New England.
Texans owner Bob McNair said recently the organization intends to begin interviewing candidates for their general manager opening this week and hopes to have the position filled within two weeks. The position is vacant because Rick Smith has taken a year-long leave of absence to care for his wife, Tiffany, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and their three children.
The Texans' search for now is focused on Green Bay Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst and Buffalo Bills vice president of player personnel Brian Gaine, according to ESPN.
