Removing P642 from Czech monument data

Vojtěch Dostál (talkcontribs)

Hello links such as this https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q122941460&diff=2274752494&oldid=2051512001 are absolutely essential for Wikidata's handling of Czech monuments and are used in Czech Wikipedia infoboxes. Can you check if you removed this from any other item of Czech monuments (anything having katalogové číslo Památkového katalogu (P4075) ) ? We need to revert all of these and then we can think how we can best implement the coordinated migration of P642 from this subset of data). Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know; I've undone my batch edit. Unfortunately, there's no good way to identify beforehand all the places where such data gets used, so I apologize for the disruption. In this batch, I moved the value of the qualifier of (P642) to the main property part of (P361), and where this statement was already present, I simply removed the qualifier as redundant. On Czech Wikipedia, the data in of (P642) is being pulled by the template Šablona:Rejstříky památek. I see two main options for modifying that template:

1) have it pull the desired data from the main property part of (P361) (in which case I can re-apply my batch as before) or

2) have it pull from a qualifier part of (P361) on the heritage designation (P1435) statement, which I can migrate the of (P642) values to.

For maximum robustness, the template could even check both places. Let me know your preference; either way, the template is locked, so an edit request will have to be made. Swpb (talk) 15:36, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for taking it seriously. I am sure we find a solution. The (2) option sounds best to me but I'll start a discussion on the Czech Wikidata chat, so that we build a consensus on that change.

As for the revert, unfortunately I see that >500 items still have this value without čeho (P642) : https://w.wiki/CAB4 - most of these will be caused by your edits, but not all. Can you have a look at it again please?

I apologize for the missed reverts. Let me know when the discussion reaches a conclusion. Thanks!

Your edits to the bike racing elements break the system used by this module in several language Wiki projects for over 7 years.

Migrating from P642 : adding claims (step 1 of 2)

Step 2 is removing the no-longer-needed qualifier of (P642), which my script does immediately after adding all the main statements.

No information is being lost. The start and end date qualifiers stay on the instance of (P31) delegated commune (Q21869758) statement. If there are multiple of (P642) qualifiers, they become multiple located in the present-day administrative territorial entity (P3842) statements. In fact, with main statements, you can specify start and end dates for each parent territory, something you cannot do if multiple parent territories are given as qualifier values.

By the way, there should be consistency in the way former administrative territorial entity (Q19953632) are modeled, regardless of country. I don't think a single-country WikiProject should be treating the territories in its purview differently from those in other countries. Swpb (talk) 15:19, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Ok, thanks, but I'm not able to log in either.

This would be better (and easier to do).
