Oporichito Movie Review : Good acting can’t save this crooked case

Oporichito is the latest addition to the growing list of Bangla crime dramas. Directed by Joydeep Mukherjee (The Eken, Kaantaye Kaantaye), the story unfolds in the UK, beginning with Ranjan (Ritwick Chakraborty) regaining consciousness after a car accident. Officer Avik (Anirban Chakrabarti) informs him that his wife, who was with him during the accident, is missing. As the duo attempts to piece together the events leading to the crash, they uncover a mystery far more intricate than it initially appears.

The screenplay, penned by Padmanava Dasgupta, takes its time exploring the misty, lush greens of the British countryside. However, the slow pace in the first half, meant to establish the characters and their dynamics, feels overly drawn out. The dialogues lack impact, with accent and tone inconsistencies disrupting the film's rhythm.

Ritwick Chakraborty and Anirban Chakrabarti give commendable performances, though Ritwick’s repetitive expressions diminish the emotional depth of his character. Ishaa Saha’s role feels underdeveloped, leaving her with little room to shine, and Saheb Bhattacharya’s character suffers from similar neglect in terms of development.

The film’s music is unremarkable, while the cinematography captures the British countryside’s moody atmosphere with heavy use of greens and cool tones. Although this visual choice likely aims to enhance the mystery, it inadvertently drains vitality from the characters’ appearances.

The second half gains momentum but ultimately rushes toward a hasty climax, leaving the first half feeling like an extended setup. The drama leans heavily on dialogue rather than action, which further hampers its engagement.

Oporichito is an average watch, offering a few moments of intrigue but falling short of leaving a lasting impression.
