Review: ‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next’ delivers a thrilling adventure that will undoubtedly satisfy dedicated fans of the manga. Set in a time of chaos, Japan is overrun by jailbreakers, with All For One and the League of Villains joining forces with the Meta Liberation Army to form the dangerous Paranormal Liberation Front. As civilians take refuge in bunkers, the responsibility falls on UA’s Hero Course students to track down the escaped villains. Class 1-A is split into three units, each led by Deku, Bakugou, and Todoroki. However, when one mission goes awry, the sudden appearance of the successor to All Might shifts the stakes, setting the stage for an intense showdown.

‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next,’ the fourth film in the series, is an over-the-top spectacle that, while not reaching the heights of its predecessors, still delivers plenty of entertainment. Picking up after All Might’s retirement and his iconic “You’re next” moment, the film introduces a surprising twist—another figure was watching all along - Dark Might, All Might’s doppelganger. Though this film doesn’t quite match the impact of the first three films, it makes a commendable effort to come close. Prior knowledge of ‘My Hero Academia’ isn’t necessary, as the plot largely stands on its own. With a well-paced narrative that balances action and comedy, the film ensures an engaging ride for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

This anime may not break new ground, following a familiar and convenient storyline, but it still delivers an engaging experience. The animation is impressive, and the introduction of new characters adds intrigue to the events. The film’s standout addition is Dark Might, a formidable villain who pushes Deku and his classmates to their limits, making for a gripping showdown. Packed with everything a devoted fan could hope for, the film also hints at Giulio becoming a fan-favourite character. While the relentless action keeps the momentum high, the final act feels somewhat rushed. It may not be a great film, but it certainly knows how to entertain.
