Sheik Mohammed racing team hit by Dubai financial crisis

Rabbah Bloodstock, the organisation which oversees the bloodstock interests of friends of Sheik Mohammed, will have nearly 19 per cent less horses in training this year compared to 2010.

The operation, which had a record 157 winners during last year, cut back its spending at the yearling sales last autumn but still expects to have 378 horses for 2011.

Many of its owners, who include Group One-winning patrons Jaber Abdullah and Saeed Suhail, have been hit by the effects of the financial situation in Dubai.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to Rabbah, said: ‘We didn't buy as many yearlings last year as we have quite a lot in training that the owners have bred themselves.

'The numbers are slightly down from the 463 we had in training last year but we still have a strong team.’
