Macaulay Culkin says son, 3, loves Home Alone after brother Kieran refused to let his kids see 'scary' film

Macaulay Culkin revealed that his eldest son, Dakota, had an adorable reaction after watching the Christmas classic, Home Alone.

The actor, 44 - who was recently seen in a Sesame Street shirt with a sweet reference to his family life - opened up to E! News about the three-year-old's feelings towards the 1990 film.

Culkin notably took on the role of Kevin McCallister in the movie, as well as the sequel Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992).

Macaulay expressed that Dakota was a big fan of Home Alone, and even humorously identifies with the character of Kevin.

'He thinks he's Kevin,' the star told the outlet. 'I'm like, "Do you remember going down that down the stairs on the sled?" He's like, "Mmhmm, yep. Sure do."'

'I'm like, "Do you remember when he had yellow hair?" And he's like, "Uh-huh, yep,"' he continued.

This comes after Macaulay's brother Kieran said he refuses to let him kids see Home Alone because there are so many scary parts.

Culkin added that his son thinks he also 'fought the burglars' from the film in real life, to which he jokingly replied with, 'You're a lying liar who lies. That was me!'

Home Alone was released in theaters in 1990 - and also starred Catherine O'Hara, John Heard, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern and his brother Kieran Culkin.

Despite garnering mixed reviews upon its initial release, the movie raked in a whopping $476.7 million in the box office on a budget of $18 million.

Last year in December, Macaulay previously opened up about Dakota's love for the film during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

'I already showed it to him last year, he thinks it's so funny. I convinced my oldest that he's the kid in the movie.'

The actor added, 'I said, "Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?" He's like, "Yeah!" He is such a liar. I'm like, "You don't remember any of that."'

Culkin shares Dakota as well as another son, two, with fiancée Brenda Song - whom he began dating in 2018

Late last year, Macaulay notably received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - and was supported by the former Disney channel star and their two little boys.

During a moving speech, the actor gave a special shout out to Song and gushed, 'You are absolutely everything. You're my champion. You're the only person happier for me today than I am.'

'You're not only the best woman I've ever known, you're the best person I've ever known,' Culkin continued.

'You've given me just all my purpose, you've given me family. After the birth of our two boys you've become my three favorite people. I love you so much.'

While Macaulay has let his son Dakota watch Home Alone on various occasions, his brother Kieran has yet to allow his own children to see the movie.

The Succession star shared his reasoning to E! News while attending the 34th Annual Gotham Film Awards in NYC earlier this week on Monday.

Kieran is father to daughter Kinsey, five, and son, Wilder, three - whom he shares with wife Jazz Charton

In regards to the 1990 film, he explained, 'There's still some scary parts.'

'For the 3-year-old, there's the tarantula [and] there's the guy at the end who said, "I'm gonna bite off all your fingers." That's scary for a 3-year-old.'

However, the star added, 'We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.'

Last year in March, Kieran reflected on his brother's rise to fame after starring in the classic flick while talking to Esquire.

'Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, "That sucks for him." Poor f***ing guy. He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality.'

With Christmas just around the corner, Macaulay has been keeping busy on his tour called Home Alone: A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin.

The event - which first kicked off late last month on November 30 - begins with a screening of the movie followed by a special Q+A session with the audience.

'For the 3-year-old, there's the tarantula [and] there's the guy at the end who said, "I'm gonna bite off all your fingers." That's scary for a 3-year-old,' Kieran explained
