Kieran Culkin reveals why has not let his children watch his and brother Macaulay's classic Home Alone

Kieran Culkin has revealed why he has not allowed his children to watch Home Alone, the Christmas classic he acted in with his brother Macaulay Culkin.

Macaulay became a star at the age of 11 in the 1990 comedy, playing a child who is by himself in the house when two robbers played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern arrive.

While Macaulay led the cast as the precocious Kevin McAllister, Kieran, who was then seven, had a small supporting part as Kevin's bedwetting cousin Fuller.

In recent years Kieran has become a celebrity in his own right on the drama Succession, playing one of the scheming children of aging media tycoon Logan Roy (Brian Cox).

He has been married to his wife Jazz Charton since 2013 and they now share two children - a daughter called Kinsey, five, and a son called Wilder, three.

But even though Home Alone is a Yuletide comedy beloved by children all over the world, Kieran has explained why his own little tykes are not to watch it.

'There’s still some scary parts,' said Kieran at The Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards in New York City this Monday, speaking to E! News.

'For the 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula [and] there’s the guy at the end who said: "I’m gonna bite off all your fingers." That’s scary for a three-year-old.'

However Kieran added that the time for a change may be right around the corner, teasing: 'We think they might be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, next year.'

As Kieran raises his family with Jazz, Macaulay and his fiancée Brenda Song have welcomed two sons into the world together - Dakota, three, and Carson, 22 months.

Like Macaulay, Brenda rose to stardom as a child, in her case on the Disney Channel with shows such as The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody.

Macaulay and Brenda have already shown Home Alone to little Dakota, sharing the seasonal classic with him when he was a year old.

'I already showed it to him last year, he thinks it's so funny. I convinced my oldest that he's the kid in the movie,' Macaulay told Entertainment Tonight in December 2023.

'I said: "Remember you had yellow hair? Remember when you were getting the bad guys?" He's like: "Yeah!" He is such a liar. I'm like: "You don't remember any of that."'

Kieran has recalled feeling sympathy for his brother when Macaulay was thrust into the intense glare of international fame as a little boy thanks to Home Alone.

'Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking: "That sucks for him." Poor f***ing guy. He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality,' he told Esquire.

Kieran achieved new heights of fame on the buzzy HBO series Succession starring Brian Cox as Logan Roy, the patriarch of a fabulously wealthy and dysfunctional media dynasty.

Logan's children were played by Kieran, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook and Adam Ruck, amid a cast that included Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun and Hiam Abbass.

The show ran four seasons on HBO from 2018 to 2023, earning a devoted fanbase and winning a shower of awards including 19 Emmys.

Meanwhile Macaulay has also been acting on the small screen in recent years, such as on a few episodes of the megachurch satire The Righteous Gemstones.

He has also had roles on Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story: Double Feature and the cartoon The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy.
