Fashionably regal! Take a step back in time with winter fashion trends inspired by Anne Boleyn, Marie Antoinette and Queen Victoria
- Fashion has been recycled for years but three winter trends are royally old
- Be inspired by Anne Boleyn and layer your necklaces
- Try big hats like French Queen Marie Antoinette
- Or go monochrome and wear all black like Queen Victoria
It's been said time and time again - everything is recycled if you wait around long enough.
And whilst these days many trends look as if they're throwbacks to only a few decade prior, many are from centuries ago.
Three trends continuing this winter—layered necklaces, felt hats and all black—are actually inspired by Queens who ruled hundreds of years ago.
Femail gives you the lowdown on the royals, their fashion, and how you can make the trends work with a modern twist.
Timeless fashion: Fashion is often recycled, as these winter trends that are inspired by Queens of yore prove
Back from the dead: Femail rounds up three trends—layered necklaces, felt hats and all black—that were inspired by royals long dead
LAYER NECKLACES LIKE ANNE BOLEYN
Layering several necklaces will be a hot trend this winter, and can be traced right back to the time of Anne Boleyn.
The second wife of Henry VIII of England, who ended up with her head chopped off, wore a lot of jewelry, including multiple layered necklaces.
Whilst Anne opted for chunky pearls and lots of gold, this winter's the trend is more about delicate chains that are strategically layered.
Length is important, so pay attention to where the pendants sit, and don't go for more than three at a time.

Layer me up: For a modern take, layer delicate chains with pendants, making sure the lengths are eye catching
ROCK A HAT LIKE MARIE ANTOINETTE
Marie Antoinette was arguably the first party girl. The wife of Louis XVI, and the last ever Queen of France, she loved fashion, food and fun.
Her excesses were well documented, her fashion sense was unrivaled, and she often worked directly with designers to create her incredible outfits.
As well as cake, Marie was a big fan of giant and ornamental hats. You can take inspiration from her with a big floppy felt hat, which is on trend this season and adds an instant touch of style to any outfit.
'Let them eat cake': Marie Antoinette (above) was fashion forward and a big fan of hats, which are also very on trend
Hats off: To copy Marie, wear a big felt hat to add instant style to any outfit
GO MONOCHROME LIKE QUEEN VICTORIA
Queen Victoria infamously wore black for 40 years after her husband died because she was in mourning.
Whilst we hope you don't have to go through having your husband and fellow ruler die, wearing black is always chic in winter.
Keep it simple and streamlined. A little black dress always looks classy, or opt for black skinny jeans and a black leather jacket for a more rocker chick look.
Monochrome: Queen Victoria famously wore only black for 40 years after her husband died
Blackout: Wearing all black is a chic look for winter and gives you instant cred
