A lot can go wrong on a wedding day—and when it does, the memories can be at times embarrassing, funny, and all-around cringe-worthy.
Flustered wedding guests, along with unlucky brides and grooms, have detailed their most memorable wedding fails to Jimmy Fallon, who originally asked fans of his show to tweet out their stories with the hashtag #WeddingFail.
Twitter users sure delivered, sharing anecdotes of mothers staying trapped in the elevator throughout the entire reception, guests driving hours to the wrong location, and butterflies dropping dead before what was supposed to be a romantic release.

Do share: Jimmy Fallon asked fans of his show to recount their most memorable and embarrassing wedding anecdotes with the hashtag #WeddingFail
Anecdote: The host, 43, shared a story of his own, recounting how a bride's uncle was one asked to leave after he attempted to start the wave during the vows
Mishap: Mixed-up names are a common theme among wedding fails, whether coming from the officiant or one of the spouses
Chiming in: Some guests apparently are tempted to take advantage of the opportunity to 'speak now' during a wedding ceremony
The late show host, 43, recounted a fail of his own, which he experienced while attending someone else's ceremony.
'I once went to a wedding where the bride's uncle was asked to leave for trying to start the wave during the vows,' Jimmy wrote.
On his show, he later shared some of the most outrageous stories people shared in response to his appeal for 'funny, weird, or embarrassing' wedding anecdotes.
Mixed-up names are a common theme among wedding fails, whether coming from the officiant or one of the spouses.
'My wife's dad officiated the ceremony. He pronounced us "Jina and Chad". My name is Mike,' one man recounted.
Stuck: Someone else recounted how both of the spouses' mothers ended up not being able to attend the reception because of an elevator mishap
Ouch: Weddings seem to regularly take a turn for the worse whenever insects are involved
Playlist problem: One bride was unlucky enough to suffer a music malfunction right when she was due to dance with her father
Fail: A woman said she had planned to free butterflies during her wedding, but it was so hot they all died before what was supposed to be a romantic release
Geography: One guest experienced a significant fail by driving four hours to the wrong state
Weddings also seem to regularly take a turn for the worse whenever insects are involved, based on two of the anecdotes Jimmy received.
'During my cousin's vows, a mosquito landed on his head. But we couldn't see it, so we sat there confused as the bride smacked the groom in the face,' one person wrote.
One woman shared her own unlucky experience with butterflies, telling the host: 'I'd always wanted to release butterflies at my wedding. It was such a hot day that the butterflies dropped dead on the guests and all over the yard. My dog ran around and ate them.'
Someone else recounted how both of the spouses' mothers ended up not being able to attend the reception because of an elevator mishap.
'Both of our moms missed the reception because they were trapped in the elevator. They forgot to press the button for level one,' that person wrote.
One bride was unlucky enough to suffer a music malfunction right just as she was due to dance with her father, according to one tweet that reads:'Guests were very confused when "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye was played by accident during the father / daughter dance.'
Confused guests appear to be a hallmark of many weddings, though some take their blunders further than others.
'My cousin drove four hours to Sparta, Wisconsin to attend our wedding,' one person wrote. 'The wedding was in Sparta, Georgia.'
