An operational issue is being blamed for the pieces of plastic found inside the tubs of ice cream during its production at Unilever's Minto factory in south-west Sydney.
'We have undertaken a full investigation of the issue and reviewed our quality assurance measures,' a Unilever spokeswoman said in a report by Sydney Morning Herald.
'We have implemented a number of measures to address the issue and are confident the steps we have taken have rectified the problem.'
The company advised consumers that the affected products shouldn't be eaten as the plastic pieces pose risk of injury.

The recall is a 'precautionary measure' and tubs with a best before date from April 28, 2018 are not affected, the statement said.
Products can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
