Lea Michele joins forces with PETA to campaign against New York's horse-drawn carriages
She's been a lifelong animal rights supporter and is proud to be a staunch vegan.
And in her latest quest to stop animal cruelty, Lea Michele has launched a campaign to boycott horse-drawn carriages in New York.
She has teamed up with animal rights organisation PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - to speak out against the harsh conditions they say the animals endure on a daily basis.

With a headline that reads, 'Horses Don't Belong In NYC Traffic', the tag line urges people to 'Help put horse carriages out to pasture'
The campaign, one that PETA has championed for years, claims that the use of horse-drawn carriages in downtown New York City is cruel and inhumane.

Lea, who is best known for her role as Rachel Berry in the award-winning show, also recorded a message featuring clips of the horses and the conditions they are forced to work in.
She said: Imagine for a moment that you're forced to do hard physical labor all day, seven days a week - whether it's sweltering hot or freezing cold outside. At the end of the day, instead of relaxing on [an] easy chair or sleeping in a comfortable bed, you are locked in a tiny closet all night long... Don't get taken for a ride.'

Lea has been a long supporter of PETA and has been a supporter of this campaign before, having taken part in the 2008 ad campaign 'Buck Cruelty! Say No to Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides'.
In April last year, she joined forces with Twilight star Christian Serratos to speak out for PETA against fur and in September she was honored by the organisation for her work for animals.
