No it's not CGI! Spider-Man really does fly through the air (with the help of wires) as mid-air scenes are shot for new film in NYC
When Spider-Man 4 is released next year viewers will no doubt be wowed by the images of Peter Parker turning into a superhero and flying through the air.
But while many fans will no doubt put the scenes down to computer trickery we can reveal that many of the scenes have actually been shot in real life – albeit with the help of a few sturdy wires.
As these images show an actor dressed in the red and blue lycra suit performed a series of acrobatic stunts as he flew through the air while filming in New York.
Up in the air: Pictures taken from the set of the Spider- Man 4 film set show that the mid-air scenes have been shot using a real actor
It was unclear if the concealed body underneath was that of Andrew Garfield, who has reprised the role of Peter Parker from Toby Maguire, or that of a stunt actor.
But as these pictures show someone was swung from a wire to perform the mid-air shots which will no doubt translate into a dramatic flying scene on screen.
While scenes have been shot earlier this week showing Spider-Man on a wire performing low-level air scenes jumping over a car and swooping down in front of a bus these are the first images many fans will have seen of activity performed at such a height.
No trickery: The actor is seen flying through the air with the help of a wire which may come as a shock to some fans who may think it was the work of CGI
Who is under there? It is not clear if the stunts were performed by Andrew Garfield or body double for the mid-air scenes
Earlier this week Ryhs Ifans was seen sporting a pale blue mask with eye holes and a navy overcoat on the set of the upcoming film.
Welsh actor Ifans is taking of the villainous role of The Lizard but it was not clear if he was keeping his costume covered or wearing the outfit for a CGI procedure to create the character for the film.

Talking about being offered the role, Garfield said recently: 'I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?"
Transformation: Andrew Garfield has taken on the role of Peter Parker (left) and in the Spider: Man 4 film and has said being given the role is a 'honour'
'Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks! Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice - God, it’s just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure.
'It’s a true honour to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it’s meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people.'
