Proud dad Wayne Rooney walks his son Kai onto Old Trafford pitch as official mascot ahead of Man United's win over Tottenham

As Manchester United's captain, Wayne Rooney had much to celebrate when his team romped home to a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

But it was also a day of familial pride for the footballer, 29, as he walked out onto the Old Trafford pitch holding the hand of his five-year-old son, Kai, who was the official mascot.

The adorable youngster wore the team's red home kit as he marched out with the team, holding his dad's hand, ahead of the Barclays Premier League showdown.

After standing with his famous father and looking out at the cheering and applauding supporters, Kai was led off the pitch to be reunited with his mother, Coleen, and younger brother Klay, 22 months.

And, as it was Mother's Day, 28-year-old Colette arrived at at the game with her own mother,Colette McLoughlin, in tow.

Top things off, the three generations watched as Wayne scored Manchester United's third goal, securing their victory and strengthening their drive for a top four season finish.

The goals came from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne, who had been in the spotlight on a day when The Sun broadcast video footage of him being floored by a punch from Stoke City defender Phil Bardsley during an impromptu sparring session.

The two footballers, wearing boxing gloves, square up in Wayne's kitchen and spar for a few seconds before Phil lands a jab to put the England and United skipper flat on his back, seemingly unconscious.

Wayne voiced his disappointment that a private moment, filmed inside his home on February 22, had been made public, a view shared by Louis van Gaal, who was clearly irritated by the story and seemed unperturbed by the nature of his captain's pastime.

After scoring United's third against Spurs, Wayne let fly with a flurry of fake punches and fell on his back, much as he did in the video clip taken last month.

'That's the world we live in today,' said Wayne. 'It was a few mates in a private house which has somehow managed to get on the front page of a national newspaper.

'I have to accept that. It was me and a few friends joking around.

'It's my own home, I know it's got out but it's not public. It's what friends do. They mess around in the house and unfortunately it has made the front page of a national newspaper.

'I've just been focused on the game, it's more interesting for other people rather than for myself. You've seen that I've done a professional job, got on with the game and gladly helped my team win 3-0.'

And Coleen was clearly impressed with his jokey celebrations, tweeting a clapping emoji along with a row of faces crying with laughter.
