He triumphed on Sunday evening as the 19th Hollywood Film Awards got under way in Los Angeles, but Joel Edgerton's bold new look continued to divide fans as he collected his trophy.
The Australian actor was honoured with the Hollywood Breakout Actor Award for his prominent role alongside Johnny Depp, Dakota Johnson and Benedict Cumberbatch in historical crime drama Black Mass.
But it was Edgerton's distinctive blonde buzz cut, mirroring the edgy style favoured by rapper Eminem, that caught the eye as he humbly accepted the honour from co-stars Depp and Johnson at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The in-demand 41-year old's garishly dyed crop of hair was all the more noticeable by virtue of his decision to wear a comparatively muted blue suit and matching dress shirt.
Representatives have told Daily Mail Australia that Edgerton's new look has been adopted ahead of his forthcoming role in gritty drama Loving - a biopic depicting the 1958 imprisonment of Virginia based interracial couple Mildred and Richard Loving.
Directed by Jeff Nichols, the film will focus on the fruition of the Loving v. Virginia civil rights case which subsequently overturned strict laws prohibiting interracial marriage throughout the state.

Richard and Mildred were later freed after the Supreme Court unanimously found their imprisonment to be unconstitutional.
Following their release, the number of interracial marriages in the area soared. The historic event is still marked and known as Loving Day on June 12.
Edgerton, who plays Richard, will star alongside Ethiopian-Irish actress Ruth Negga - best known for her recurring role as Raina in US series Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Meanwhile the former Secret Life of Us star is generating awards season buzz, with Vanity Fair saying: 'Edgerton’s been turning in stellar supporting performances for years now, but this ought to be his moment to elbow into the best supporting actor Oscar field at last.'
He is also set to feature in forthcoming western Jane Got A Gun alongside Ewan McGregor and Academy Award winner Natalie Portman.
Both Loving and Jane Got A Gun are scheduled for release in 2016.
