'Have we lost our marbles?' Keith Urban reveals his initial concerns on collaborating with Pitbull and how his American Idol pal Jennifer Lopez helped them connect
With a career spanning over a quarter of a century, Keith Urban has rarely strayed from his country/soft rock genre, that is until now.
His upcoming ninth studio album, Ripcord, opens up a new world for the singer-songwriter, who teamed up with rapper Pitbull, with whom his American Idol pal Jennifer Lopez hooked him up with.
Speaking with News Corp in an article published on Thursday, the 48-year-old New Zealander opened up about how he 'freaked out' about hitting play when the track arrived in his email inbox.

'I have to admit at first I thought "Oh sh**, we’ve completely lost our marbles" but the more I listened to it I realised the whole thing was super fun,' he said of the song Sun Don't Let Me Down.

Pitbull isn't the only big name the Somebody Like You singer has worked with on the album, having employed the genius of funk legend Nile Rogers to play guitar on the same track.
He said that playing this song in particular might be a little more challenging to produce in a live setting, saying: 'I probably won’t pull people out of the audience to try and do his rap.'

Keith, husband of Australian Hollywood siren Nicole Kidman, also collaborated with Carrie Underwood on the track The Fighter.
'I'd like to think I was smart and picked all these people for various reasons but they were just ideas that came into my head and I acted on them,' he explained.
Last Wednesday, Keith released the music video for his latest single Wasted Time which is off the new record.

The shows Keith and his band performing by a camp fire, as flashbacks of the 'perfect summer gone by' play intermittently in soft focus.
Keith Urban's Ripcord is out on Friday May 6 and will headline the Deni Ute Muster alongside Troy Cassar-Daley and Shannon Noll.
He will also tour with Carrie Underwood at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on December 6, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on December 8, GIO Stadium in Canberra on December 10, Allphones Arena in Sydney December 12 and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on December 16 and 17.
