Jamie Foxx, 57, admits he thought he was being 'pranked' after waking up from 20 day coma following terrifying brain bleed and stroke

Jamie Foxx has revealed how he thought it was a joke when doctors told him he had been out for 20 days after suffering a stroke caused bleed on the brain.

In Friday's upcoming Graham Norton episode, the actor, 57, speaks out about his terrifying health scare which saw him in a coma following surgery in April 2023.

Jamie said he 'didn't remember anything' from the time he was rushed into A&E to when he finally came round 20 days later.

'I was very unwell but now I am back feeling good. It makes you realise that you need people that care and love you around to get you through it.

'I didn’t remember anything happening so when I came to 20 days later I thought I was being pranked. It was beyond crazy.'

Jamie has now made his return to Hollywood alongside co-star Cameron Diaz for their new film, Back In Action.

He had been filming when he started experiencing a 'bad headache' in Atlanta and initially was given a cortisone shot, but his sister Deidra Dixon, 'knew something was wrong'.

Deidra drove him to Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital, where he underwent a life-saving procedure.

The family kept his health battle private at the time, with Jamie only revealing last month what really happened.

He previously revealed how he vividly remembers waking up from his coma on May 4, and being unable to walk.

He recalled: 'When I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk.'

Yet Jamie didn't want to believe he'd had a stroke and recounted his therapist telling him about his ego: 'You need to kill the old Jamie so the new Jamie can thrive.'

He also reflected: 'God blessed me with money and fame, but when I forgot about God, He blessed me with a stroke.'

Of his return to the public eye, Jamie told Graham: 'I knew I had to get back and realised the way to do it was by being funny. I told so many jokes people thought I was mad, and then I would act as someone else – for three whole days I was Denzel Washington.'

And Jamie raised eyebrows when he jokingly declared that he's done dating white women in a song on Netflix special, released last month.

He sang he's been 'cured' and is 'back on the black side of town'.

Sitting down at a piano, the Hollywood star sang: 'Sisters, I'm here to tell you, I've been cured.

'I've been cured of everything, no more white girls. I'm serious, no more white girls. No more white girls. No more. No more white girls.'

As audience members applauded and leapt out their seats, Jamie continued: 'I'm back on the Black side of town!

'No more white girls. No more potato salad and raisins. No more white girls. No more spray tan, no more big t*tties no ass, no more white girls.'

Jamie has had several high-profile relationships over the years with both black and white women.

He enjoyed a six-year romance with Katie Holmes from 2013 to 2019.

While many viewers were in hysterics by Jamie's admission, they couldn't help but question his sincerity.

Taking to X, one wrote: 'Interesting. It took a stroke???'

Another said: 'Jamie funny as s**t because he lying like hell LMFAOOOOO.'

A third added: 'I don't believe him. But I'm going to mind my business.'

HOW CAN F.A.S.T SAVE YOU DURING A STROKE?

The main symptoms of stroke can be remembered with the word F.A.S.T.

This will help you more quickly identify someone having a stroke.

  • Face: the face may have dropped on one side, the person may not be able to smile, or their mouth or eye may have dropped.
  • Arms: the person with suspected stroke may not be able to lift both arms and keep them there because of weakness or numbness in one arm.
  • Speech: their speech may be slurred or garbled, or the person may not be able to talk at all despite appearing to be awake.
  • Time: it's time to dial 999 immediately if you see any of these signs or symptoms.

Cameron, 52, is making her return to film after a decade-long hiatus.

In the comedic spy thriller Jamie and Cameron star as ex-CIA agents who are now married with kids.

They are drawn back into the spy business, however, but things get complicated because their children have no idea what they do for a living.

She said: 'I am back all thanks to Jamie. I had 10 years of not paying attention to anything; not accepting any advances, and then I got this script and thought that maybe it was time. If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business.

'It is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do. That the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing.

'I loved those 10 years for me and my family, but I thought, "If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it chance, I am a fool."

'It might be the beginning of something, but its here now and I am grateful for it.'

The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One on Friday 17th January at 10.40pm. Also available on BBC iPlayer.
