Sports legend looks totally unrecognisable as he steps out in coronavirus-stricken Melbourne wearing a rather alarming face mask

Fans would be forgiven for not recognising AFL legend Chris Judd as he went for a stroll in Melbourne's south-east on Wednesday.

The retired footy star, 36, stepped out wearing a rather alarming ski mask, which concealed the entire lower half of his face and neck.

While he looked ready to hit the slopes, Chris was simply doing his civic duty by covering his face in accordance with the state's COVID-19 restrictions.

The former Carlton captain seemed to be taking Melbourne's stage-four lockdown in his stride by wearing a tongue-in-cheek slogan sweater that read 'Isolation vacation'.

He kept well within the permitted 5km radius of his $7.3million Brighton home.

Chris, his wife, Rebecca, and their four children, Oscar, Billie, Tom and Darcy, won't be able to stray far from their newly-renovated mansion for the next few weeks.

Melbourne is under a police-enforceable curfew of 8pm until 5am until at least September 13, as the rest of Australia returns to business as usual.

Melburnians can only leave their homes between these hours for work, care-giving, medical reasons or on compassionate grounds. 

The city's 4.9 million residents have also been banned from travelling more than 5km to do their shopping, and only one person from each household can leave at any time.

Victoria is facing draconian restrictions, with residents required to wear a mask or face a $200 fine, after coronavirus cases spiralled during the state's second wave.

On Tuesday, Victoria recorded 19 deaths and 331 cases of coronavirus, taking its COVID-19 death toll to 247 and the national figure to 332.

New daily case numbers have declined in the state since the peak of 725 on Wednesday, August 5.
