List of feasible taxonomic ranks according to International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants
[edit]All valid ranks in descending order, according to International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants §4.2:
- kingdom Q36732
- subkingdom Q2752679
- phylum Q38348 or division Q334460
- subphylum Q1153785 or subdivision Q3491997
- class Q37517
- subclass Q5867051
- order Q36602
- suborder Q5867959
- family Q35409
- subfamily Q2455704
- tribe Q227936
- subtribe Q3965313
- genus Q34740
- subgenus Q3238261
- section Q3181348
- subsection Q5998839
- series Q3025161
- subseries Q13198444
- species Q7432
- subspecies Q68947
- variety Q767728
- subvariety Q630771
- form Q279749
- subform Q13202655
Currently, the each one is connected to the next higher rank with property P279 "subclass of". Does property P361 "part of" fit better? The order of the ranks is encoded with <lower rank> "part of P361" <next higher rank>. The discussion, if P361 is the right property for encoding this, is here. List of feasible taxonomic ranks according to International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes
[edit]All valid ranks in descending order, according to International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes §5b, §5c and §5d:
- class Q37517
- subclass Q5867051
- order Q36602
- suborder Q5867959
- family Q35409
- subfamily Q2455704
- tribe Q227936
- subtribe Q3965313
- genus Q34740
- subgenus Q3238261
- species Q7432
- subspecies Q68947
Again, the hierarchy is encoded with property P361 "part of". See discussion above. FelixReimann (talk) 07:22, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Hello, could somebody fix ST8:USA300 (Q150908)? It uses strain (Q855769) as this property value. To Succu about [1]: exceptions listed on this page are more visible than on constraint report pages as I think. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 21:17, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- Ivan, sometimes exotic cases are not easily to fix and should not be hidden. I tried a fix. Greetings --Succu (talk) 21:59, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- It's not a so exotic case, particularly within species that have a high level of mutability and with very fast reproduction (notably bacteria, virii and fungi, and other unicellular species)...
- What we call a strain (Q855769) is just a subset of taxons that was significantly isolated in a given region and a short period of time where it first appeared as proliferating, but sometimes there are several distinct instances coexisting and mutating rapidly when new resistances are developed.
- We cannot call them variety (Q767728) or subvariety (Q630771), alias var. or subvar. (like taxonomic ranks that are being developed artificially), but they may be considered as approximately equivalent to forms (Q279749) or subforms (Q13202655), or to a mix of them (e.g. for developping "vaccine cocktails" adapted to the most prevalent forms to be treated).
- In frequent cases a strain (Q855769) (such as the ST8:USA300 (Q150908) here for bacteria, or the various flu virii, or AIDS) is paraphyletic as it contains several taxons in some more or less related group (often with multiple distant origins), but now occuring at the same time in similar topes (and that are difficult to isolate precisely, except by some common characteristics against which we attempt to develop some common defences).
