Bhimaa Movie Review : An Interesting Premise Marred by Outdated Narratives
Critic's Rating: 2.5/5
Story: Bhima and Rama (Gopichand) are twins with diametrically opposite dispositions. A pivotal incident in their childhood drives a wedge between them, leading them down separate paths. Bhima embarks on a courageous journey to become a police officer, while Rama leads a life steeped in tradition as a timid orthodox priest. Bhima's assignment in the enigmatic town of Mahendragiri, revered as the chosen land of Parasurama in mythology, sets the stage for a clash with Ravindra Varma (Nassar), a local ayurvedic practitioner with divine aspirations, and his confederate, Bhavani. The narrative unfolds, revealing whether Bhima can dismantle the evil pervading Mahendragiri and the extent of Rama's involvement in this epic confrontation.
Review: Directed by A Harsha and featuring Gopichand, Malvika Sharma, and Priya Bhavani Shankar in lead roles, Bhimaa is an action-packed drama infused with mystical and mythological elements. The film commences with a promising mythological exposition, introducing the audience to Mahendragiri, its historical significance, and its mystical aura. However, the script soon succumbs to conventional tropes, including exaggerated heroism, a superficial romantic subplot, and cheesy dialogues.
Gopichand, in a dual role as Bhima and Rama, captivates with his commanding presence and aesthetic appeal. Malvika Sharma, portraying Vidhya, a teacher and PhD scholar who captures Bhima's heart, radiates charm, albeit her character's development lacks profundity. Priya Bhavani Shankar, as Pani, delivers a commendable performance, though her presence is limited appearing only in the latter half. The supporting cast, comprising, Vennela Kishore, Raghu Babu, Nassar, Naresh, Mukesh Tiwari, Chammak Chandra, Poorna, Rohini and Sarayu, among others, effectively contribute to the narrative's depth.
From a technical standpoint, Bhimaa boasts commendable production quality and an evocative musical score by Ravi Basrur, known for his work on KGF and Salaar. While the soundtrack enhances the film's ambiance, its melodies tend to fade from memory post-viewing.
In conclusion, Bhimaa presents a visually and thematically engaging action drama, underpinned by a fascinating premise. Yet, its reliance on outdated storytelling techniques undermines its potential, rendering it a mixed offering for audiences seeking depth and innovation in cinematic narratives.
