Fans speculate on the 'hidden meaning' of Melania Trump's Valentino dress at Jimmy Carter's state funeral

Melania Trump's supporters are convinced she was sending a secret message with the Valentino dress she wore to the State Funeral Service for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on Thursday.

Melania, 54, accompanied her husband Donald Trump, 78, to the ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.

The incoming first lady wore a black Valentino trench dress with a white button-down underneath from fall 2019 with an enormous, dramatic white collar.

Melania paired her Valentino dress with classic black Manolo Blahnik pumps.

While at first glance, it looked like Melania's dramatic collar had an abstract design, it actually featured a print of a couple kissing in front of roses and butterflies.

The mysterious print was shown in multiple pieces from the design house's fall 2019 collaboration with Undercover, a high-end Japanese street brand.

The black-and-white print is based on a 19th-century neoclassical sculpture of kissing lovers, according to Vogue's review of the collection.

Melania's supporters flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to try to figure out the meaning behind her cryptic ensemble.

One fan tweeted, 'Melania's Coat Dress that she wore today is by designer, Valentino. Valentino used a print of the sculpture "The Kiss" in this collection that she's wearing.'

'The sculpture was originally conceived by a larger sculpture titled, "The Gates of Hell,"' they continued, along with a Wikipedia description.

The page explained, 'The Kiss (Le Baiser) was originally in The Gate along with other figures of Paolo and Francesca da Rimini.'

It continued: 'Rodin wanted to represent their initial joy as well as their final damnation.

'He removed the figure that became known as The Kiss because it seemed to conflict with the other suffering figures.'

The former model's devout supporter continued, 'How fitting to wear in a room full of traitors,' as Melania was seen sitting with her husband's former opponent, Kamala Harris, as well as his former Vice President, Mike Pence, and his wife, Karen Pence.

Karen refused to acknowledge the president-elect along with Melania as they arrived, and did not get up from her seat or shake their hands.

Trump was seated with all four living former presidents - none of whom had endorsed him.

One person explained on X, 'Everything she does is with thoughtful intention,' before boldly declaring, 'Style is back.'

While many people praised Melania's designer look, some on social media were left greatly confused her fashion choice.

Some social media detractors compared the oversized collar to The Handmaid's Tale costume, a nun's habit, and a Quaker woman's shawl.

All five living presidents arrived at National Cathedral to pay their respects to the late President Carter.

Former President Barack Obama was seated next to Trump and the two men were seen having a long, cryptic conversation.
