Gavin Newsom is caught lying about California's homeless 'crisis' shocking new data reveals

California Governor Gavin Newsom has been caught red-handed making misleading claims about his state's devastating homeless crisis.

Newsom boldly claimed on social media that California had 'dramatically slowed and reduced' homelessness growth on Friday.

He even boasted about 'making more progress than a majority of other states.'

'California has dramatically slowed and reduced the growth of homelessness – making more progress than a majority of other states, the nation as a whole, and previous administrations,' he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

'We're continuing to lead the charge in getting people off the streets & connected to care,' the post continued.

But the governor's claims were immediately shot down as official figures paint a completely different picture of California's crisis.

'Gavin Newsom's post is completely misleading,' a correction states on X.

'California's homelessness is not declining, it's growing YOY.'

The correction explains that since 2019, California has spent about $24 billion on homelessness, but in this five-year period, homelessness increased by about 30,000, to more than 181,000.

The post comes as shocking new data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development reveals California's position as the worst state in America for homelessness, with numbers that dwarf other states.

While California struggles with 187,084 homeless individuals, New York follows with 158,019, then Washington with 31,554, and Florida with 31,362.

The governor's claims sparked fury online.

'Newsom is getting destroyed every time he comes on here and tries to lie,' one social media user commented.

Another user slammed the post, writing: 'News flash, 'Governor' : CA's 'dramatic' homelessness reduction? Still home to 171,521 homeless, up 2% from last year. Hardly a victory. Tossing tiny fixes at a huge crisis & calling it progress? Please. Try again, Gavin.'

Another user slammed the Governor for his recent purchase of a $9 million home.

'How's that 9 million dollar home? You could squeeze in a few, but you're all talk,' they wrote.

Last month, Newsom and his wife moved their family to an exclusive part of the state where all four of his children are now enrolled in Marin County schools.

The Democrat, touted as a possible future presidential candidate, will keep his six-bedroom $3.7 million in Fair Oaks in suburban Sacramento home where he will stay with spouse Jennifer Siebel Newsom some nights of the week.

But he will relocate his children 90 miles away to a $9.1 million home in Kentfield, Marin County where his eldest child Montana has just enrolled in high school at The Branson School - with tuition fees of up to $60,000 a year.

The deal for the 5,600sq ft new mansion closed and saw Newsom pay 7 percent more than the asking price for the mansion that sits on less than an acre of land.

The six-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom property complete with a guest house for visitors comes with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Mount Tamalpais.

Outdoors, there's a swimming pool and a spa with sculptures lining a back garden with a roaring fire pit. Inside the bedrooms come with a handful of walk-in closets.

A Newsom spokesperson stated at the time: 'The family continues to split their time between Sacramento and Marin counties.

'The family's children are transitioning grade levels, including to high school. The Governor and First Partner want to create continuity in their children's education, recognizing the Governor's term ends in January 2027.'
