Major Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan is stabbed by home intruder and undergoes emergency surgery
Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has undergone emergency surgery after he was stabbed in the early hours of Thursday by an intruder who broke into his home.
The incident took place at around 2.30am at the actor's home in Mumbai, where he lives with his movie star wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, 44, and their two sons.
According to Indian news reports, police went through CCTV footage outside the Khan's home, but no one was seen in the two lifts, the lobby, or entering the building within two hours of the attack.
A senior police officer told the Indian Express newspaper that they suspect the accused may have used the building shaft to enter the 12th floor apartment.
Khan, 54, sustained six wounds in the attack with one deep one near his spine, the Press Trust of India news agency said, citing a doctor at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital.

A female employee at Khan's home screamed to alert other family members at around 2am, according to The Indian Express newspaper. She was injured during the attack and was reportedly being treated.
A statement from Mumbai Police said: 'An unknown person entered Actor Saif Ali Khan's residence and argued with his maid late last night.
'When the actor tried to intervene and pacify the man, he attacked Saif Ali Khan and injured him.
'Police are investigating the matter.'
Kapoor Khan said in a statement that the family were fine and requested 'the media and fans to be patient and not speculate any further as the police are already doing their due investigations.'

Khan, who is also a movie producer, has been featured in about 70 films and television series.
He is the son of former Indian cricket captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore.
He won multiple awards for his roles in Hindi cinema, including seven Filmfare Awards.
In 2010, he received the Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.
