Faati Ne Movie Review : A horror-comedy that makes you laugh throughout its runtime, while giving you jumpscares every now and then.
Critic's Rating: 3.5/5
Story:
Two Gujarati police officers, Paramlal (played by Hitu Kanodia) and Padamlal (played by Smit Pandya), living and working in Melbourne are situationally forced to spend a night in a haunted Melbourne Mansion, and prove that there is no ghost there. How they spend a night facing eerie challenges is a hilarious roller coaster ride to watch out for. But the question is, do they come out safe or not?
Review:
One of a kind horror-comedy, Faati Ne?, written by Faisal Hashmi and Fenil Dave, has elevated this genre in Gujarati films. Small nuances shown by director, Faisal Hashmi brings out good jumpscares. Music by Soham Naik and Deepak Venugopalan has an beautiful tracklist, with soulful song like Pankhida to groovy track like Aagho Khas. The CGI team of the film has done an impressive work, especially in tricky genre like horror.
Talking about the performances, Hitu Kanodia gets to showcase several shades through his journey as a father and a cop as Paramlal. Smit Pandya, known for his comic timing, is brilliant as Padamlal with his expressions, dialogue delivery and you cannot miss but laugh at everything he does throughout the film. As a surprise element, is Akash Zala as the ghost, and this performance will surely mark his bigger opportunities for him in the Gujarati films. From his entry itself, Hemin Trivedi as Baba doesn't let you keep you engaged by his looks and hilarious performance. Strong performances by the supporting cast of Chetan Daiya and Kaushambi Bhatt, along with a special appearance of Mona Thiba Kanodia levels up the story.
While the second half of the film feels bit a stretched, the humour and powerful performances cover up for it. Some contemporary references in the dialogues surely makes you giggle throughout the film.
It is great to see Gujarati filmmakers experimenting more in the horror-comedy genre and giving out good films. A nail-bitting horror with comedy that makes your stomach hurt, Faati ne? is family entertainer movie. Towards the end, you surely will say, "Kaik observe karyu?"
