Sanju Weds Geetha 2 Movie Review : Sanju Weds Geetha 2 review: A love story stuck in time wrap

Critic's Rating: 2.5/5
Clearing all legal hurdles, Sanju Weds Geetha 2 has finally hit the screens this week. Directed by Nagashekar, who rose to fame after the 2011 film Sanju Weds Geetha, starring Srinagara Kitty and Ramya, the 2025 film, albeit bearing the same title, is not a sequel to the film.

Sanju (Srinagara Kitty) accidentally meets Geetha (Rachita Ram), who is on the way to take part in the Miss Karnataka finale. He gifts her a saree which showcases the rich history of Karnataka. She ultimately ends up winning the Miss Karnataka title. It is a love-at-first-sight for Geetha, who then starts looking out for him. The only daughter of a silk business tycoon, Geetha confesses her love for Sanju, and the latter accepts it with all his heart, promising to take care of her till his last breath. Geetha faces opposition to the relationship from her father (Sampath Raj), but that doesn’t stop them from getting married. As both Sanju and Geetha enter a new phase of life, armed only with hope, they have multiple challenges to navigate.

The film opens in the present with Geetha waiting for Sanju to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. Sanju, who is in Hyderabad to attend an important conclave, showers Geetha with surprises. He books her a chopper to arrive in Hyderabad. When she reaches Hyderabad, a twist in their fate awaits the lovers, which will alter the course of their lives.

Sanju Weds Geetha 2 evokes nostalgia for those who enjoyed Sanju Weds Geetha. This is both a boon and bane for the 2025 film. Some love stories are eternal and timeless, but this one seems to be stuck in the past with outdated concepts of a rich girl falling in love with a poor man, a disease that challenges their relationship, among others. With an extremely predictable and dated narrative, director Nagashekar churns out an average film, with beautiful songs and stunning visuals. The second half takes place in Switzerland, and cameraman has captured the snow-covered country at its finest. But lack of a strong screenplay weakens the act.

Kitty and Rachita are comfortable as Sanju and Geetha respectively, but they don’t evoke chemistry. They seem to be lost in their own worlds in spite of being in each other’s arms. There is a clear lack of emotions when they come together on screen, as they look more like mourners than like a happy couple. The movie barely touches upon the issues of sericulture farmers, and is built around the themes of love, revenge and sacrifice. The revenge track between Geetha’s father (Sampath Raj) and Sanju, too, is unclear. Rangayana Raghu appears in just one scene, and Ragini’s much-hyped cameo too is cut abruptly. Chetan Chandra plays the doctor convincingly. Tabla Nani gets a new accent, and he carries the role with ease. Sridhar Sambhram’s music is very nostalgic with its 2000s appeal, and the soothing songs are merged beautifully with the film; Satya Hegde beautifully captures both Switzerland's snow and Sidlaghatta’s rain.

Besides the nostalgia around the title, the movie fails to connect emotionally with the audience. While the love story was the heart and soul of Sanju Weds Geetha, the 2025 film fails to establish the bond between the couple. In 2011, Kitty and Ramya became the most loved couple because of the film; cut to 14 years, the movie with the same title definitely deserved better!

Movie does trigger the old time love stories and is a one time watcher for all old timers who don’t like violence and want to just see a love story. Switzerland is well captured and overall it’s good to enjoy a love story just as one

I liked this movie, for the mesmerizing cinematography, melodious songs, a classic love story and grounded direction. It has some loose end, but doesn't cause harm to the story. Not sure, why some media reviews and some youtube reviews are targeting a good movie among several others.
