Ewan McGregor takes legal action to stop woman who posed 'imminent danger' to his family

Ewan McGregor has asked for a restraining order against a woman who is alleged to have made threats against him and drove hundreds of miles to see him at Christmas, it was reported yesterday.

It has been claimed the woman posed a ‘threat of imminent danger’ to him and his loved ones.

Court documents filed in the United States allege the woman saw herself as the 53-year-old Trainspotting star’s jilted lover and believed his second wife, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 40, stole him from her.

American celebrity website TMZ reported court documents filed in Los Angeles said the threat increased late last year when the woman drove more than 1,900 miles from Minnesota to California on Christmas Eve to the home of his ex-wife, Eve Mavrakis.

Crieff-born McGregor, his wife and his children were at the house celebrating the festive season when the woman tried to access the property.

But she was turned away at a security gate after asking a series of bizarre questions.

Reports said that following the encounter, the woman made deadly threats while referencing TV crime drama Dexter and a sniper rifle she was researching.

It is claimed she sent more than 500 emails to McGregor or his family, including his 23-year-old daughter Esther, since 2022, with the common theme that she wants to have children with him.

According to TMZ, she told the Star Wars actor she had just watched The Da Vinci Code and believed the film was a secret message ‘from the Illuminati saying that I’m a princess’.

During her lengthy drive to California, messages were also sent in which she detailed the stops she made along the way and what she was doing in each town.

The website reported that a temporary restraining order has been granted, requiring the woman to remain 100 yards away from McGregor, his wife, his ex-wife and his five children.

She also cannot contact or harass them in any way, the court said.

McGregor is seeking a full civil harassment restraining order against her for himself, his wife, his four daughters and his son.

He married Ms Mavrakis in 1995 and the couple have four girls together – Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk. The couple separated in 2017 and the divorce was finalised three years later.

In 2021 he welcomed his fifth child, son Laurie, with Ms Winstead and the couple married the following spring.

Last November, it emerged that McGregor had applied to renovate a lodge within the grounds of his luxury £2million Scots mansion.

The actor has outlined proposals to Perth and Kinross Council to renovate the building at his Carse of Gowrie retreat.

He wants to refurbish existing windows of the category-B gate lodge and install some new double-glazing units.

McGregor also wants to replace old PVC windows with timber sash to match what is already in place.

Official records show that McGregor bought the property last May for £2.35million. It had been on the market for offers over £2.15million.

As well as a gate lodge, the property has outbuildings and more than 15,000 sq ft of living space, with a two-bedroom flat, stores and a wine cellar.

The main accommodation includes an entrance hall, three reception rooms, a billiards room, family room, study and hothouse/conservatory.

Since buying the mansion, McGregor has been given permission to erect a garage and create a new master bedroom and bathroom suite.

Perth and Kinross Council is expected to make a decision on the renovations in due course.
