Love Island: All stars' Marcel Somerville reveals the real reason he split from Olivia Hawkins just days after leaving the villa

Love Island: All Stars' Marcel Somerville has revealed the real reason he split from Olivia Hawkins just days after leaving the villa.

It was revealed this week that the pair, who were axed from the South Africa villa in a shock double dumping last month, had gone their separate ways and decided to just stay friends after failing to find a romantic connection.

And now in a new interview, Marcel, 39, opened up about the truth behind their break-up, revealing that there were things to 'sort out' in his personal life before he could move forward with a new relationship.

The Blazin' Squad star is currently still legally married and is going through a divorce with wife Rebecca Vierra after she cheated on him during their two-year married.

Marcel told The Mirror's The Bombshell Briefing podcast: 'So after we left the villa, me and Liv got to know each other over six or seven days in total and you leave the villa together and people are expecting and hoping it's going to turn into something more.

'But when you get back to reality - I've obviously got a lot of stuff going on, she's got a lot of stuff going on.'

The rapper then went on to explain how the pair also didn't want to feel the 'pressure' of trying to make a relationship work outside the villa.

He explained: 'There was pressure to try and make something work but we both said, "Let's not put pressure on our situation. Let's just be friends." Because we are really good friends, we've got a really good bond.'

He added: 'We spent a lot of time in there, we still talk all the time. We just decided that it was best not to put pressure on our situation. We might still meet up and go to the football but we're not going to create a situation where we're together and the pressure of that when it doesn't need to be that just yet.'

The TV star then addressed whether he'd be open to rekindling his romance with the brunette beauty, 29, in the future, with Marcel admitting that the issues in his personal life will play a factor.

He said: 'We're just seeing how things go, just because I have so much going on in my personal life.

'For me, it's a situation of right person, wrong time. It's a situation of wanting focus on things I want to get sorted out first before I dive into another relationship and put more pressure onto life.'

Before entering the villa, Marcel previously insisted that he won't feel bad about moving on with his love life during his lengthy divorce process.

He said: 'Divorce can take a while, but if I'm not with someone and I'm not in a relationship with that person, is it fair for me to be like "oh cool. I'm not going to do anything for like the next year and a half or two years, whatever it is, until my divorce is filed for me to move on and start living my life again?"

'Me and Rebecca aren't together. We're both at a point where we're like, you know what? The marriage broke down, we need to move on. I don't feel like I should be scrutinised for moving on with my life because it's just something that people need to do.'

Following Marcel and Olivia's split, a source confirmed to MailOnline: 'Liv and Marcel have made the decision to part ways.

'They’ve chosen to go in separate directions, but there's no hard feelings.

'While they do share some fond memories together from their short stint on Love Island, they’ve built a great bond but have decided they’re better off as friends and are both looking forward to the next chapters in their lives.'

Olivia and Marcel were voted the least compatible couple by viewers, after landing in the bottom with Ronnie Vint and Elma Pazar, and Nas Majeed and Catherine Agbaje earlier in the series.

The departure left the rest of the villa in floods of tears, though Marcel and ex Gabby Allen said they were 'glad' to have patched things up following their bitter split in 2018.

Hinting that she would be open to exploring their connection on the outside, Olivia called Marcel 'the cutest' and they said they were glad to be leaving together.

Speaking to host Maya Jama after departing the villa, the presenter branded their departure a 'shock exit.'

Marcel said: 'I feel like we had a really good compatible relationship,' while Olivia added: 'I feel the last two days we got so close.'

Olivia has since blamed her shock dumping on her flirty conversation with fellow islander Luca Bish

The star admitted she 'wasn't surprised' to be dumped, placing the blame on the tensions between herself and Luca.

In her post-villa chat, the brunette beauty said: 'When our names got called I actually wasn't that surprised, I did think after the whole chat with Luca that it was a possibility.

'I think all three couples in the bottom deserved to be there and I just believe that whatever happens, happens and if it was my time to go then it was my time to go.'
