Fashion stylist reveals how to wear a blue jean jacket without looking frumpy and dated

On TikTok, Gen Z women (between 12 and 27) are begging millennials (between 28 and 43) to get rid of their blue jean jackets, which has been a longtime closet staple.

The jean jacket has been a point of contention between Gen Z and millennials for years, as creators have made videos about how they're frumpy or dated.

Some jean jacket haters even say the style makes women look ten years older, especially if you're over 50.

Viral videos have called on women to hang up their jean jackets and retire them forever.

Millennials call the outerwear 'classic' and refuse to retire the 'staple' wardrobe piece, with many celebrities refusing to part ways with their favorite jackets.

However, many women are left questioning what they should wear if their beloved jean jacket makes them look frumpy or dated - and luckily, there's a way to give it a much-needed update.

Whether you want to buy a brand new jean jacket or give the one in your closet new life, there are plenty of easy ways to provide a mini-makeover.

To find out the best ways to style the jean jacket you already have or search for a new one, FEMAIL reached out to Los Angeles-based fashion stylist Eunice Heesun Park.

It's best to avoid a cropped jean jacket, like the one Reese Witherspoon was spotted wearing in Los Angeles in 2017, and inste4ad stick to a more oversized, boxy look
Eunice warned, 'when it has all the bells and whistles, you find yourself not being able to wear it as much,' about studded jean jackets, like Gwen Stefani's, above

Eunice, who founded the womenswear brand The Regular Program, told DailyMail.com she's 'definitely partial to a classic style over a trendy one.'

The Regular Program is all about 'timeless style over fading fashion trends,' so she's become an expert on finding items that will last.

Eunice has been in the fashion industry for more than 16 years and promised that 'finding a good denim jacket doesn't mean it has to break the bank.'

Instead, Eunice said 'it can just be something that has an incredible fit or quality craftsmanship.'

'The key is to find something that is versatile enough that you can easily throw on to any look,' Eunice said.

Many millennials and above often wear their jean jacket with everything, whether it's a going out top or a sundress.

'Denim is a staple in one's wardrobe, whether it's a good pair of jeans or a denim jacket, if the right pieces are purchased, it can live on,' Eunice promised, but clarified that 'it really comes down to cut and color.'

While it might be tempting to buy one with pearl buttons or fringe to embrace cowboycore, it's best to stick with the staples since trends come and go.

'If you want a denim jacket that will move through trends, you want to find a good fit - something boxy, that doesn't fit too tight or too loose, and definitely not too cropped or overly long,' Eunice suggested, with Gigi Hadid showing off an example

If you still have a medium or light jacket, Eunice suggested a lighter top and darker bottoms.

'You can pair your jacket with a clean white-tee and some leather or black pants,' Eunice suggested.

'Add a modern belt, some good ankle boots, and you'll have an instant-chic look,' Eunice promised.
