Moana 2 sailed to the top of the box office over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend in keeping with the trend set on its Wednesday release date and again on Black Friday.
The highly anticipated animated adventure starring the voices of Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson broke the previous record five-day record set by The Super Mario Bros. Movie over Easter weekend 2023 and the former Thanksgiving record set by 2019's Frozen 2, with Box Office Mojo reporting the film hauled in $221 million domestically over the five-day weekend.
Internationally the musical about a young woman chosen by the ocean to break a curse on her home island, collected another $165.3 million for a worldwide total of $386.3 million opening at number one everywhere, except for China.
'Moana 2 has far surpassed our high expectations this weekend and is a testament to the phenomenon that Moana has become,' Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in a statement release Sunday.
'We're fortunate to have an incredibly talented and hard-working creative team at Disney Animation who brought this new adventure to life, alongside our wonderful stars Auli'i and Dwayne and great new music,' he said.
'This is a moment to celebrate, and we're thankful to all the moviegoers and fans who've helped make this a record-breaking debut.'

The theatrical extravaganza starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as frenemies Glinda and Elphaba collected $80m over the usual three-day weekend, but with Wednesday and Thursday thrown in, it filled its coffers to the tune of $117.5 million for the extended weekend.
The movie is performing well around the world, with a global total of nearly $359.3 million.
Gladiator II starring Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington battled it out to land in third place, earning some $44 million for the five-day period.
The high budget film, which cost $350 million to produce and market, has covered its costs, earning totals of $111.2 million domestically and $320 million worldwide to date.
Fourth place went to Red One, starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans who embark on a hunt to rescue a kidnapped Santa Claus played by JK Simmons.
