A porn star who is the great-great granddaughter of former US Secretary of State Henry Clay went from being lauded as the most stunning performer in adult entertainment to spiraling into drugs and prostitution.
Chasey Lain was one of the industry's biggest names in the '90s.
A dead ringer for Carmen Electra, she was once dubbed 'the most beautiful woman in porn.'
At her peak, Lain appeared in mainstream movies and TV shows, raked in six figures a year from her own sex toy line, and even had a hit song written about her.
But by the 2000s, she was allegedly battling drugs and had started turning tricks at Dennis Hof's infamous BunnyRanch brothel.
It was a sad downfall for the brunette bombshell, whose career at one point was poised to be as big as Jenna Jameson's.
Lain had what she described as an average upbringing, growing up in North Carolina and cheerleading in high school.
Her uncle was the chief of police, while her great-great grandfather was former United States Secretary of State and House Speaker Henry Clay.
Chasey Lain was lauded as 'the most beautiful woman in porn' in the early '90s, before suffering a shocking downward spiral
Lain has said that she was constantly reminded of her prestigious bloodline growing up, but the pressure didn't stop her from pursuing a career in sex work.
She started stripping for extra cash while attending college in Florida, and it didn't take long for an agent to suggest that she cash-in on her striking good looks by moving to California.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Lain quickly booked roles in a string of racy movies and graced the cover of best-selling smut magazines like High Society, Cheri, and Gallery.
By 1993, she had signed an exclusive contract with Wicked Pictures, beating out porn queen Jameson who famously became the company's second ever contracted performer in 1995.
Once Wicked signed Jameson, Lain jumped ship to Vivid Video - then the biggest company in the entire industry.
Vivid quickly utilized Lain's star power by having her headline X-rated feature films with big budgets and storylines, including Chasey Saves The World, House on Chasey Lane, and White Wedding.
It didn't take long for mainstream offers to come rolling in, and Lain soon found herself appearing on The Howard Stern Show and landing roles in films like Matt Stone and Trey Parker's Orgazmo and Spike Lee's He Got Game.
In a radio interview last year, Lain even claimed that she'd rubbed shoulders with Hollywood A-listers like Adam Sandler, Matt Dillon, and Charlie Sheen in her heyday.

Before and after: Lain became the industry's biggest star in the early '90s but eventually ended up seeking treatment in rehab in the 2000s
By 1999, the Bloodhound Gang had penned a hit song about Lain ('The Ballad of Chasey Lain'), but she failed to show up for the music video despite being given a starring role by the band.
Soon after, rumors began to swirl that Lain was possibly battling some issues behind the scenes.
She disappeared from the adult industry for two years, and then once she returned, she was noticeably appearing in lower budget, more explicit fare than before.
Her name slowly faded from the spotlight until 2008, when a shocking behind-the-scenes video from a porn shoot was posted online that showed Lain at her lowest point.
In the footage, a disheveled and sometimes incoherent Lain argued with a director backstage about how much she was being paid and whether or not she could film sex scenes with a tampon in.
After spending almost four hours in hair and makeup, Lain, twitching and wearing a low-cut dress, finally made her way to a couch to shoot some promotional stills.
'You've got to stop moving so much,' the exacerbated director is heard telling her.
'You're jumping around all over the place like a jelly bean, you've got to stop!'
The brunette beauty graced the covers of DVDs and VHS tapes, which all became best sellers thanks to her star power and sex appeal
Lain covered dozens of adult magazines throughout the course of her career
The pair eventually got into a screaming match, which ended with the director calling Lain a 'crack w***e' and shouting, 'Get your s**t and get the f**k out of my studio!'
The next year, Lain confessed that she'd entered rehab to get clean after the incident.
'Things were spiraling out of control and I know I needed help, which I got,' she told Xbiz.
'It was just time for me to kick [drugs] once and for all,' she continued.
'That is behind me and now I'm ready to make great movies. I'm happy to be back shooting.'
Rather than making a triumphant return to the top tiers of adult entertainment, Lain soon found herself working as an escort at the BunnyRanch brothel in Nevada.
In a sad 2011 interview, Lain - clad in a bikini with no makeup on and perched on a bed inside the notorious brothel - looked unrecognizable compared to her former self.
'Anybody can come. Swing on by and we'll have a good time,' she told the interviewer.
'Dial 188-BunnyRanch and they can get me on the phone... or you can hit me on the BunnyRanch website.'

A few years later, Lain would lament her time working at the establishment.
'It's not for me because it's way far out of town and I don't like the money split,' she shared in the documentary After Porn Ends 2.
'They take half of everything and then charge you for room and board and different stuff as well,' she continued.
'It gets real slow during Christmas because it gets real cold there and it snows and stuff, so sometimes there would be days, two, three, four days, and not one person would walk in the door.
'So you end up having to stay a little bit longer than you would have because you're upside down to the house, because every day that you're there they charge you room and board and this and that.'
While Lain admitted that she could always shoot more porn to make ends meet, she said that she didn't want to film as often because the quality had gone down and performers are now expected to do things on camera that she wasn't comfortable with.
'I'm just not interested in shooting every day because I don't really like doing interracial scenes too much, I don't want to shoot a***, and that's mostly what they're shooting and I'm not interested in shooting that,' she said.
Lain seemed to fade away from the business after that, but in October last year, she posted several links to the Hope Detox & Treatment Center on her Facebook page.
While Lain didn't provide any detailed updates herself, a staff member from the center responded to one of Lain's friends in the comments.
'We're pleased to report that Chasey Lain is making great strides in her recovery journey at Hope Detox & Treatment Center,' staffer Meline Akopyan wrote.
'She is fully committed to her sobriety and works to reclaim her health, wellness, and professional life. We appreciate your support and positive wishes for her continued progress.'
When contacted by DailyMail.com about whether or not Lain was receiving treatment there, the Hope Detox & Treatment Center said, 'We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of patient confidentiality and privacy. For this reason, we cannot confirm or deny the identity of anyone receiving treatment at our facility, nor provide information about our staff members.'
DailyMail.com has reached out to Lain for comment but did not hear back.
