Trace Cyrus claims dad Billy Ray threatened him with legal action after dramatic plea for him to get help

Trace Cyrus claims his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, has threatened him with legal action following an impassioned public plea to the country crooner to get some help.

Eyebrows were raised following the Achy Breaky Heart singer's 'trainwreck' performance at the Trump inauguration earlier this week.

In a statement released on Instagram Saturday, Trace, 35, addressed the issue, writing directly to his 63-year-old father.

'Dad my message was beyond loving,' the Dark Road singer began.

'I could have been extremely honest about a lot more but I don't want to put your business out there like that,' he wrote, adding, 'But for you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.'

Perhaps referring to his paternal grandfather, Trace continued: 'Pappy is looking down at you with such disappointment I can assure you. You should be ashamed of yourself.'

Referring to the Liberty Ball performance, People reported speaking to an insider who said the Some Gave All  singer was not comfortable with his gravely voice. 'His voice has changed, and he's been really insecure about it.'

According to the insider, the artist was determined to go on with the performance even thought it meant 'stepping out on stage with his voice, putting himself in a vulnerable situation and showing the world that his voice has changed.'

In fairness, the performance was plagued by technical issues which prompted him to improvise and perform a cappella at some points.

In another instance, the performer's silhouette could be seen moving about the stage as music played in the background - prompting social media users to label the situation as 'plain embarrassing.'

Cyrus has since brushed aside the awkward performance, posting on Instagram that 'you just had to be there' and that he 'wouldn't have missed the honor' of performing at the ball.

In his heartfelt post on Thursday, Trace, who was adopted at age four after Billy Ray married in mother Tish, in 1993, said, 'Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever.'

'i wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life.'

Trace was correct when he wrote, 'You may be upset with me for posting this.'

'I really could care less at this point,' he said adding, 'Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you've pushed all of us away,' he added of his siblings - including pop star Miley Cyrus and indie rocker daughter Noah Cyrus.

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus divorced in 2022 and he quickly married Australian singer-songwriter Firerose (legal name Johanna Rosie Hodges) in 2023.

The marriage was short-lived and reportedly volatile. Both accused the other of emotional, verbal and psychological abuse in court papers leading up to their divorce a year later.
