Lisa Lisa has revealed the brutal first time she met her father, revealing that she swung at him with a baseball bat in a desperate bid to stop him from continuing a violent campaign against her late mother.
The 80s chart-topper, who shot to fame alongside her band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, is revisiting her younger years as she prepares for the release of her upcoming Lifetime biopic Can You Feel the Beat: The Lisa Lisa Story on February 1.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com on Tuesday, Lisa, 58, recalled being raised alongside her nine siblings by a single mother in Hell's Kitchen, New York, and that she was clueless about her dad's identity until one fateful day in her early teens.
After arriving home to find her mom being assaulted, Lisa instinctively jumped into action.
'I was a kid still in school, coming home, and that was the first day that I knew that it was my dad,' she said.
'I walked in and, being a kid from Hell's Kitchen, we used to have a bat side of our door. So, when I walked in and I heard my mom whimpering, I'm like, "what the hell?"

'I walked in and I freaked out. I grabbed the bat, and I started swinging and she freaked out and she said, "Lisa, stop!" And I said, "what?" She goes, "that's your father." I was like, great introduction.'
Lisa explained that she never had a relationship with her father, adding that he was a 'deadbeat dad'.
'I've seen him in a couple of places that I was at, including my first wedding,' she shared.
'He was there at the back of the church, but I left that alone. I never had a relationship. He was never involved in raising any of my brothers and sisters with me.'
Lisa admits that her relationship with her father did impact her relationships with men.
She married her first husband when she was just 20, before going on to find her now partner, Antonimar Mello, in 2004.
'It was pretty dark,' she said. 'I wanted to be loved by a man, and I think I chose, you know, for all the wrong reasons, getting married to someone who I didn't know.
'But that's okay, because then I found somebody, and it gave me two beautiful children and I'm happy.'

The 90-minute film begins with the heart-wrenching scene in which she comes face to face with her dad for the first time.
Speaking about having to relive the traumatic moment for the camera, she said: 'I was in that scene, and I had to be pulled out because I just went through it.
'But, you know, it's good for people to see that, you know, there's always a way out.

'There's always a way out. Therapy worked, and my music worked 100 percent for me.'
Lisa, who was behind several hits in the 80s including I Wonder If I Take You Home and All Cried Out, said that her biopic was six years in the making.
'I'm just going through all the emotions,' she told DailyMail.com ahead of its premiere.
'It's like a wave of emotions of all. If it wasn't for my manager, Toni Menage, convincing me to do it, I would have never done it. But I'm here now.'
